Has anyone else done an ammo inventory?

Shocked to say when I checked the larder, I found 16 and 20 gauge shotshells, a ton of collectible stuff (old .22 .41 swiss, but a little of everything to keep at least, my eye good. ) I do have reloading components for my beloved .38 specials but primers are still kind of a problem. Used to be people wanted the ammo OUT of the house. Now with demoflation all actual goods are worth storing. Plus My Riot rounds if they don't railroad Chauvin properly for the masses.

Years ago, when ArtDoc (then SP) posted about his garage shelves collapsing under the weight of his ammo, I knew I would always sit at the ammo collecting kiddie table.

I thought about doing an ammo inventory spreadsheet but finally decided against it. I still shoot a lot here in Switzerland, no shortage in sight and I buy regularly when good deals come by, and from private sellers. So it's a moving target and I don't want to spend a lot of time updating this sheet. It's enough job keeping the guns spreadsheet up to date.

A couple years ago before the current crisis started I decided I needed to look at what I had and of what I needed to start building up a supply. I came to the conclusion that there were only a couple calibers that I needed to bolster my supply. 22LR and I had recently gotten into building/buying several different 300 Blackout firearms. The 22LR situation was at the optimum low prices so I was able to put away multiple tens of thousands of rounds. Apparently however I was not the only person who had gotten the 300 Blackout bug and while I waited and plotted for prices to come down the supply suddenly dried up. Luckily I have enough brass and components to load plenty, but some will be used up in creating test loads.
All other calibers of ammo, short of there being an out right civil war, I think I have enough to shoot and practice with until I die and then it won't be my problem any more.

Each can filled to the top, plus the unopened cases of 5.56 and a box of assorted 12 ga. I don't feel a need to count every round.

was thirty years ago when I really started accumulating (not hoarding) ammo.

You are speaking the truth. I have shaved down to one caliber except for some 38Special. I will have plenty to last me unless a disturbance starts. Any that I have left will go to good homes as my daughter, grandson and great grandson are all shooters.

I deal with an ammo seller from Ohio who comes down to gun shows in southcentral PA, and I also see him at gun shows in Ohio when I visit my brother in Ohio. He has been supplier of .455 Webley shells for me. According to him I bought just about his entire allotment of Fiocci .455 Webley shells.

Except for the collapsed shelf, I never did a formal inventory of what I had. But when I got the ambition to organize and properly store all of the components and ammunition I had around, I discovered that I had to pay for a bunch more cabinets and shelves.

I was digging thru my assorted ammo can today. Found a box of 10mm and I've never owned a 10mm. Several old boxes of 32 S&W long. plus some old 22LR, and 25 auto.

I had 2 full boxes of 25 rimfire that I never found after the move to Florida back in 2001. I did find 5 rounds in a freezer bag full of 22 mag thou. At least I can say I have some ammo for my old Stevens 25 rimfire.

I inventoried my ammo and reloading supplies last spring as I had some time to kill. After seeing what I had I concluded I have enough to keep shooting at my regular rate for a number of years. I even have ammo for guns I've never owned. There are several boxes of .25ACP, a bunch of .30 Luger, 20 Gauge shells, even a box of Nambu pistol ammo. If I can find an inexpensive .25 I'll probably buy it just to put all that .25 ammo to use.

I also suffered the collapsed ammo shelves. I rebuilt using 2X4's and 1/2" plywood. It won't even sag now. The heavy stuff is on the floor in metal ammo cans. I probably have enough to last me for target shooting until the dirt nap comes.

I did a shed clean-up and kind of organized my ammo over the last month or so. I wanted to seperate it so that if there was a problem theft,fire, tornado etc. I wouldnt loose it all. Also wanted to keep some in the house in a second safe that only has a few rifles in it. I collected up the oddball boxes from rifles and handguns that I no longer own, and will never own again 38 super -10 boxes, 7weatherby mag 7 boxes, 7 rem mag 4 boxes stuff like that not much pistol ammo. I priced it cheaper than what I had seen on some websites, but not so cheap that people would buy it to run out and resell it. I took it to a swapmeet at our local gun club and thought what the heck ,I will see if it sells. I sold every box with the exception of 1 box of 7.65 argentine something ,that I gave to the last guy who bought all the 7 rem mag. I left with over 8 bills and some guys were actually thanking me for selling them ammo at a decent price. I havent bought ammo in years , except some 17WSM a few years ago and then once I found a good round, for my rifle I bought 3 thousand and put it away. I shoot about 200-250 a year with that rifle,so its ok.
I would like to start reloading some pistol ammo , 45 cal stuff just to work on some better accuracy loads but unfortunately this is probably not a good time . Still I will keep my eyes open for components and see what I can put together, but Im in no real hurry and dont plan on breaking the bank . I will shoot what I have until then.
