Gas Block M&P Sport 2 OR

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to AR modifications and a gas block has got me stumped. I've got an M&P sport 2 OR. In removing the gas block the tapered pin easily came out and the set screw also easily came out. With both of those out I'm no closer to getting the old gas block off so I can put a 15" STNGR free float rail on.

I'd really appreciate any advice on how to get this stubborn gas block off so I can get this new rail on. Thanks in advance.

If the taper pin is removed and the set screw is removed, it should slide off towards the muzzle. Remove the gas tube and muzzle device (if there's one on it) and use a rubber/plastic mallet and a block of wood to remove it. By the looks of the pic, it's probably stuck on from carbon build-up. It will come of with a little 'coaxing'. Just a little tap, tap, tap-a-roo...

I just removed my OR gas block. The tapered pin was the most difficult part. When it came time to remove the gas block, I wacked it with a hammer and it slid down towards the end of the barrel. Pulled it the rest of the way by hand.

I haven't done this yet, but I believe you have the pin for the gas tube removed, but the gas block to barrel pin is still in there.

One of my S&W ORs had 2 set screws inside the one hole lol. One on top of the other, if thats the case and you remove only the one it aint never coming off.

I'm looking to upgrade my Sport 2 OR with a 15" Midwest free-float m-lok but have the same GB needing replaced with a low profile and then the barrel nut that comes with the HG. It looks like the pin through the bbl is still in this one. Can that be knocked out or does it require the use of a torch before you can knock it out?

If you use the proper vise, punch, and hammer, you should be able to pound it out. Some come out relatively easy, others take some pounding. It's a tapered pin so make sure you're pounding it out from the correct end.
