So I can continue to get deals there…

So I am looking at a 15-5 with an 8 3/8 inch barrel at Cabela's - nice gun with box, reasonable price.

The guy says, "Oh, we have another long barrel in the back we haven't put out yet."

I say "Oh, what's that?"

He says "A long barrel 16-4 with box and papers and tools."

Guess what I said.

"I'll take that one."

ANIB with box, papers and tools still in wrapper - with a price that was reasonable for Cabela's- saw one at symposium for similar price…

With the application of some Cabela's points, I was out of there for 1500 plus change.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

You all stay away from Cabela's - let me get the good stuff.

Great Find!

I got two good deals at Cabelas during the last year. One, when they reduced the price of a less common gun to an average online asking price. A second one when I bought a lightly used S&W 4566 for $650, which would not be an awesome deal, EXCEPT it inclued 3 45xx magazines. (I DID post pics btw)

Cabelas will also send a gun to another store local to you, no shipping fees and no out-of-state transfer fee. In my case, that saves about $70~80, total.

That hasn't been my experience. Awhile back I inquired about shipping an out-of-state gun to my local Cabela's and the charge quoted was $25. I also inquired about shipping a rifle a few days ago and never got a response. I called and was told the person that I needed to talk to was unavailable. I left my number but they never called me.

I've got at least one good deal at my local store so I would give them 2 stars instead of 1.

Interesting! Sorry for any misdirection, I am not a frequent, or experienced buyer. I never asked the local store before I had the 4566 shipped. I found the gun in the Cabelas online listings, called the out-of-state store, and they did it all. All I paid at the local store was $10 for the local/state paperwork... and waited, and waited, and... (yeah, there is that, but my local FFL never gets instant approval, either). It was fairly painless except for the wait.

Okay, I don't know the K-frames as well as so many of you. Let me just say that I have never seen a 6-inch Model 15 and I have never heard of nor dreamt about an 8-3/8" Model 15.

I can't really even figure out why either would exist when the Model 14 clearly covers that territory and does it with grace.

That would be the Cabela's at 2421 Gulf Freeway S, League City, Texas, right?:D

Nope.

Won't go there.

Nope.

Just south of Houston, right?:D

My experience doing about 8 buys from various Cabelas is that shipping from one to another was free. Didn't even have to ask, they made mention of it up front.

Yep, that's been my experience too. I've found many desirable guns in various Cabela's gun libraries and they've always shipped to my home Cabelas free of charge; their sister store, Bass Pro, does the same.

Huthike, congrats on the great find! I have a 4" 16-4 and would have jumped on that 8" like my wiener dog jumps on a Snausage. I also have 4 and 6 inch 17-6s, a 14-6 would fill the hole in my 4" full lug K frame family. :)

Bought a "like new" Beretta DT-10 from them in 2008 that wasn't cheap. When the gun arrived the wrist was cracked. Returned it and it was relisted sans mention of the cracked wrist. Glad folks find some deals there but I'm always weary when it comes to their listings.

I avoid Cabela's because of this statement of yours. BTW, I expect that Cabela's purchased that 16-4 for something in the range of 200-300 dollars and told the seller that nobody wants revolvers with barrels that long or guns with oddball calibers. Consider that and your purchase price and you'll understand why I don't like going to Cabela's. Sad thing is that before Bass Pro I really enjoyed a trip to Cabela's.

Cabela's?

Our local Cabela's has been despumated by Bass Pro! They closed the gun library, have no used guns, and not many new guns for sale. However, you can buy any thing you can think of pertaining to fishing! I guess we are too close to Lake Erie! I went there to have them inquiry and transfer in a gun from an out of state store which was listed on GB! The sales person was on the phone with the out of state store for almost 1.5hrs only to find out the gun had been sold 9 MONTHS earlier!
No more Cabela's for me!

I always check out Cabelas. My trick is to just expect there to be mostly ridiculous price tags and not bother with those. My local store has an RG-22 in the Gun Library tagged at $200! I just grin at those and move along.

But every now and then, this happens.
