Purchased a 13-3 from a local pawn shop on Saturday.
It does have issues, scratches, hammer was bobbed by a user not a gunsmith, holster ware and some of the bluing was rubbed off under the grips.
It's extremely accurate out to 7 yards at double action only. The trigger pull is very smooth and consistent.
Paid $400 for it, all in all, I'm very happy with my purchase.
Serial number: 9D99097, if someone could provide a date of birth, according to Standard Catalog of S&W, it would someone between 1982 and 1987
Thank you!
Hope the pics attach to this posting.

Nice pick up. It's possible you bought a FBI issued revolver. Those Pachmayr grips, with the cut out at the bottom to see the serial number were used on the last issued revolver to the FBI. I hope that's correct information.:) Enjoy.

According to my Standard Catalog of S&W, your piece was born in 1982.
The serial number range for that year was 9D44501 - 17D8900.
Hope this info helps.

Yes, its from Silver Dollar in Roswell, I have purchased 3 Smiths from them in the last year, very happy with all of them. Last purchase was a model 19 Classic in the box with all paper work.

Great find.

I have the stainless version model 65-2, 1979 vintage. A great shooter. Mine is a four-inch. Would like to add a 3 inch too.

I have a question, the hammer is bobbed on my model 13, probably by one of the owners, do you think it would be worth purchasing a new hammer and installing it to put it back into original condition?
Thank you

I would say, that it comes down to your personal preference. Personally,I would leave it alone.

If you’re going to carry it. I would leave it as is, but still buy a hammer. You would then be able to put the replacement hammer in whenever.

I have a 13-3 , 3” . I would buy the hammer now. You can change it out at your will, or include it should you decide to sell it in the future. You have a nice revolver there, IMHO it’s one of the best. Shoot it and enjoy!

Depends upon the intended use. For CCW, I'd leave the bobbed hammer. If it is going to be a house gun or range toy, restore it with the correct hammer.
