Got a choice between a Model 66 no dash or Model 67 no dash. Both mint condition and boxed. Can only afford one at this time from a local store. Which one would you pick. Some say the M67 points better. Any truth to that. ? Both have stainless rear sights. I have heard M66 Could have structure issues with hot 357 loads as well.

The M66. Shoots both calibers and better resale

Ditto.....

While the 66 "may" have problems with 1970s hot 125 gr .357s; the 67 won't even chamber them. Stick to heavier bullets in .357 and you're good to go. Also today's "hot" .357s are milder than the older stuff ... except, I hear, Buffalo Bore.

Grip and grip frames are the same on both guns. Standard K-frames w/ the same adjustable sights.

Stainless rear sight guns bring a premium with collectors and those early .357 66s are pinned and recessed, another plus!

I have several mags to shoot, so I don't really need any more. A few years ago I had the chance to buy an almost new in box 67. It had been fired only 12 rounds and the box of 38 remaining rounds came with the sale.

The gun is an awesome shooter. Tightest S&W I own and its simply a tack driver.

It will be one of the last handguns I ever sell.

I'd go with the Model 66.

I worked for a department that required me to buy my own duty weapon. I started my LE career with a model 15 a "combat masterpiece" like the model 67. Then, I bought a model 19, a "combat magnum" like the model 66. I carried the model 19 for nearly 25 years.

I liked both the masterpiece and magnum, but the magnum has more ammo options.

I was never a fan of hot loads because I didn't want the extra wear on my firearm.

Mu advice is to pick the weapon that best suits your needs and enjoy.

Toss up! No diff between the 2 when shooting .38s but the 67 won't shoot .357s.

My 67 no dash was my favorite until I recently snagged a 19-3 (Combat Magnum like the 66 but blue). I will probably still shoot the 67 more often.

Either way you will have a 'keeper'.

What could possibly be the rationale for the argument that a 67 points better than a 66? Or vice versa?

66 vs 67

I have both. I prefer shooting the Combat Masterpiece with Magna grips. With the 66 you have the choice of .38 Spl or .357, where the 67 is limited to .38. Enjoy your new handgun no matter which one you choose.
