Just scored three 50 round boxes of this ammo at a lgs. $40 per box.

Not too bad as I haven't seen any of this for a couple years at any price

I just put my LCR 327 on my carry license and use this for full power practice and 327 Gold Dot for carry.

Awesome score!
I've been debating over 3 yrs about getting a Ruger® LCR® Double-Action Revolver Model 5452.
Is this what you own?

How does it perform and how is the close-range accuracy?

Yes, mine is a 5452.

It's as accurate as any snub revolver.

It works well and shoots where you aim it.

I put an lg415 laser grip on it which absorbed the recoil pretty well.

This is powerful ammo. Shooting it gets your attention.

Sounds excellent!
My Pa has a couple of stubborn/ornery coyotes that just stand and stare/growl at him from about 10-15 yards away, sometimes when he takes out the trash!
I reckon this should send them into early retirement if he's blasting this ammo or these ammo brands, you think? LOL

* Buffalo Bore 327 Federal Magnum 100 Grain JHP - 1450 FPS 465 FP
* Speer Gold Dot 327 Federal Magnum 100 Gr - JHP _ 1600 FPS & Muzzelle Energy 568 FP

I would expect those 327s to be effective on coyotes, especially at the ranges you indicate. The results I've gotten on water filled 2 liter pop bottles have been very impressive, and coyotes are not noted for being very thick skinned nor tenacious when hit solidly.
I sure wish S&W would make a K frame 327... that's the ideal platform for the round, IMHO.

Froggie,

I couldn't agree more!

Ruger Single Seven?

I know thats right!
I tell you what this has raised my eyebrows a tie or two as well!
Ruger New Model Single Seven 08163 .327 Federal Magnum 3.75" SA Revolver

My only objection is "Single Action" as opposed to double-action, bet it's accurate as all get out!:(
Do you have any experience or preference with single action vs double?

That Federal AE .327 Federal Magnum ammo is good stuff. I stocked up on 1500 rounds before the madness. I have four firearms in this caliber.

Are you telling me that levergun in the picture is chambered in .327 Federal Magnum?

I have been saying all along they released that cartridge in the wrong platform. The small handguns were not what I think is a good choice but a carbine would make an excellent Varmint gun including Yots.

Over a long time a .32 Cal carbine always made a great Varmint eraser! It would probably take White Tail Deer cleanly too. (like the 32-20) It's a handloaders dream cartridge too since we can load the appropriate bullet for the job.

Henry is the only one producing a rifle and carbine in .327 Federal Magnum that I'm aware of. Maybe Ruger with the acquisition of Marlin will start? They have always supported the .327 Federal Magnum.

As a varmint hunter but all-around bad shot, I would advise coyotes are awfully hard to hit with a handgun, even coming in and focused on a dying rabbit decoy.

Your father should give them a whiff of some buckshot in whatever gauge shotgun he has. Coyotes behaving like you describe need to be put down immediately before they harm someone.

Having owned both a Ruger Blackhawk and a custom K frame S&W in 327, I can say I like both, but I tend to shoot the S&W in single action mode. Nonetheless, I enjoy having the DA option available. I shot PPC in a previous life, so settling in to DA shooting still feels natural to me.

I had a 327Fed LCR for awhile but sold it because I just couldn't take the blast and recoil from the 327 Fed loads. Afterwards was doing some reading and discovered that the LCR would also chamber and shoot other .32 revolver cartridges and the S&W Long, while exhibiting mild recoil/blast, was a decent SD load. Furthermore, because the LCR will chamber six rounds in .32 vs. only five in .38/357 it tops the .38spl options with proper flat hard cast loads. As my arthritis continues to plague me I've been shooting more .380 and .32ACP. The new Sig P365-380 is pretty sweet. I also like my Beretta 70s in .32ACP and just yesterday picked up a Mauser HSC also in .32ACP. My Beretta is reliable with Hornady CD XTP and FTX but NOT Gold Dots. I'm going to range today to see if the HSC will handle them similarly. Lucky Gunner Labs shows the XTP version as a decent performer, penetration wise.
But, I like the reliability of revolvers and with the new information. I'm on a hunt for another LCR or maybe a S&W but they are much harder to find.

I have one of the Henry rifles and love it. I just wish they made it with the side gate loading feature.

I've said it before, one big advantage of the 327 chambering is that you can shoot any of the straight sided revolver cartridges in it. Really wanna wuss out? Shoot 32 S&W [short] in it. Pop guns have more recoil! :D
