38 special HST discontinued

Can anyone confirm the Federal 38 special +P HST has been discontinued ?

Per the Federal website a!most all their 38 Special +P self defense varieties are "currently unavailable"... I don't know if that means "discontinued" or not.

Ammossek shows nothing available for the Micro HST, BTW.

Based on observations, looking at the Ammo in local stores,
Not many manufacturers are currently making much 38 Special.
I see 9 mm stacked high with a number of Brands, Bullets, etc.
Then I see like 10 Boxes or less of 38 Special.

Let's face it, those of us still shooting 38 Specials are probably dinosaurs. And I for one don't even remember seeing the Comet!

However, there are some of us that like to get 100% of our cases back
after a shooting session at a indoor range, or where ever and
not have to chase after your cases that went sailing all over the place
if you try to reload for the 9mm pistol.

Plus a 38 "Revolver" does have it's good points.

Was at the local Sportsman's Warehouse today. The most ammunition and varieties of calibers that I have seen on the shelves in at least two years. However no .38 Special or 6.5 Creedmoor. Those two were what I was looking for.

I really think it is because a 9mm eats up and spits out, "Way More" ammo at a time,
than a revolver with only 5-6 rounds at the get go for most guns.

Which puts more $$ into the pockets of the ammo makers and I can't blame them.

In the last two years my 38 JHP bullets sent down range has been minimal,
while 98% of my practice loads have been with cheaper, lead bullets.

Good luck finding any HST ammo, since it is very good SD ammo.

I shoot plenty of 9mm, and while I don't like current prices, it doesn't stop me from shooting lots of 9mm.

I hate the cost of 38spl and 357, which is often 2x and 3 or 4x respectively, the cost of 9mm today, but worse is the scarcity.

I would prefer to buy my ammo, but I've taken up reloading, just to make sure I can shoot my 38/357 revolvers.

Are we demanding less 38Spl ammo so less is being made, or are we shooting less 38 Spl ammo because so little is available? It's a chicken or the egg conundrum.

Low ball 9mm has been as been under 40 cents.
Big Bro 357? Haven't seen any.

Just loaded 150 rnds 38 Spl.148 grn HBWC for the Colt Mid Range, 200 rnds of 38 Spl. 150 grn KT cast and 100 rnds 357 Mag 150 grn KT. Going to range tomorrow with 4 Smith 38/357 Mags. Empties will go in tumbler tomorrow PM.

As a note;

I have 38 special "Mirco" 130 gr +P and 9mm HST ammo in my revolvers and Pistols

in the "ready", as well as the 38 "FBI" in winter times, for my winter loads
for my 38 snub nose.

There is usually three good SD loads out there from the "Big four" , so
you should be able to find at least one box of ammo that will work for you.

It could just mean that Midway has dropped the SKU, not that Fed has stopped making it (but I don't know one way or the other).

I doubt that it's been discontinued by Federal. More than likely is that the runs to make it are greatly reduced because there's more demand for 9mm and other calibers.
