Model 60-10 opinions wanted.

Would have been a 60-4 in .38 Special with the firing pin on the hammer or a 60-10 in .357 with the flat hammer that strikes a frame mounted firing pin.

I'll bet you'd be a bit surprised at the weight difference if you put either of those and your 66 on a scale, especially loaded.

The weight difference on a postal scale is, iirc, 6oz unloaded between my 2 1/2" M66 and my 3" M60.

Thats 24 oz for the M60 and 30oz for the M66. or 25% more for the M66, which is significant.

It would probably be too big for most of my pockets, but I think it would make a dandy IWB gun. Not too bulky like some of the larger framed revolvers. The adjustable sights are a bonus to me.

IWB and easy to conceal. Nice thing about most IWBs with straps that snap over the belt is "easy off and on" if you need to go to "NO GUN ZONES".
Great snag at a good price.

I didn't weigh them side by side just picked one up then the other, the 6oz difference just wasnt enough to sway me over the K frame's better action and extra round of .357 as I only carry my Model 66 when I'm in an area where there might be 2 or 4 legged trouble.

South Florida only has 2 seasons, we have our "Summer" wIth windows open and great weather when it's snowing up north, the rest of the year we have our other season called "TOO DANG HOT (TDH)" .
When it's TDH you go from the AC house to the AC car to the AC job or mall which makes wearing jackets impractical (you can't open carry in Fl) .

During TDH mostly pancake OWB with an untucked shirt or pocket carry a Model 37 ( weighs a whopping 15 oz) .
When going to Mi-Jami, Ft Liqourdale or WPB carry a SW 6906 (26 oz) due to its 12+1 capacity because of the greater amount of miscreants in those places.

Sometimes rotate in a Model 3953, 39-2, 59, Model 12-2 or a 4" Model 29-3 Mountain gun if hiking in bear country.

The 3" Model 60 in .357 is a fine revolver but i already have enough J frames,
The obvious solution is to have several or one of each.

Shorter bbl K frames can be carried with untucked shirts . But I get your point about concern for the finish in LS humidty and sweating .

Yes , the 60-10 is a fine gun , that's a decent price , etc . But , strictly as a carry gun , IF actual full power .357 ammo is important , I'd go with an SP-101 . If primarily to use .38 & +P , the .38spl J Frame of your prefered configuration .

I have had a 60-10 for a long time.
The first one to come home was picked up in lieu of a 19-3 4" I had originally went to look at. Never regretted that choice. I just could not afford both at the time. Then my sneaky brother talked me into selling it to him for his wife. Figured I would "just" go buy another one. Wrong!!!
Took me almost two years to find a suitable replacement. Now the Pope could not get this one from me.
As a carry gun it works very well. IWB loaded with 38 +P rounds.
As a woods gun it gets loaded with 158 gr 357. Yeah the punch is a bit stiff but I don't find it offensive. In our woods you can run into problems ranging from Yogi having a bad day to a some moron and his pot plantation. I will tolerate the extra recoil for Yogi.
Missing one shot from my 66-1 but that does not bother me. I have small hands and the 60 fits my hands perfectly. I shoot it better than the 66 snub so how much value that extra round imparts is questionable for me.
You made a fine deal with that gun. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine

...to me the best J-frame ever made... Have had two for going on 20 years. Both found used but like new. The fist one was just standard but the second was Mag-Na-Ported and turned out to be one of the Lew Horton Small Hunters model...one of 133 made.

They make a great all around carry gun, but of course not for the pocket.

For a load I use the Buffalo Outdoorman .38 Special 158 hardcast solid and the 158 HP-GC...both are going in the 1060 fps range from the 3" barrel. A lot more power than the 158 +P from the BigThree and a lot more pleasant to shoot than .357s...

Price is very reasonable...

For CC in LA hot humid climate I'd be leaning towards a 2" stainless 38 J frame carried either in a IWB or pancake holster. Pocket is more difficult, again 2" 38 Airweight J frame either shrouded or hammerless in a pocket holster, NO target sights to snag on clothing. Choose shirts carefully, plenty long loose and irregular pattern to disguise outline of handgun.

Lots of great opinions already, so I'll just add my "good choice" to the list.
i've had a 60-10 for a few years, works just fine with a 'good' IWB holster.... don't scrimp on that, because the added length needs a little more padding in there. I like the new 1791 moldable holster for my 3913, and if they make it for the J, get one. At least take a good look.... 3 layers, but not really bulky and the sharp parts are well-hidden. About $100.

For holsters I use a REMORA IWB and a limited production DeSantis Speed Scabbard. A friend who has a 60-15 (same gun with the IL) gave me the Speed Scabbard after buying a Simply Rugged Silver Dollar Pancake. It can be worn IWB or OWB...

The SR silver dollar pancake is high on my list of possibles.
How's your podnah like it?

In the CC mode time to put aside the virtues of a range/target revolver, follow the long established practice of cops and crooks, a S&W or Colt 2" snub nose revolver. If well above average height/weight might get away with a 3" barrel.

Having been in LE for 30+ years, have to disagree with your logic...

There are no LEOs who currently carry snubbies...and those that did were investigators who NEVER get into gun fights.

Crooks also rarely get into gun fights and only carried a snub because it could be hidden easily and only going to be used at arms length...and these days crooks don't even carry them having switched to plastic guns quite some time ago.

As to CC with a 3" vs a 2", unless one pocket carries or in a ankle holster there is no difference. Both are going to have the same grip regardless of barrel length and the 1" of extra barrel make no difference IWB and little difference OTB...and makes the gun much more shootable...

Hey, I'm old and cheap, too - VERY cheap! 😉 I wouldn't want to pay $700 for a 60-10, but if a 4-inch 29-2 is worth roughly $1200 in today's crazy market I'd say a pretty good case could be made for $700 for the 60-10, assuming in nice shape. :)

In the warm weather. I just carry OWB with a Larger Tee Shirt. Just remember you have to dress around the gun. Not to be fashionable. Most of the time I just carry in a OWB and leave my shirt untucked. It works for me.

I have a 60-4 which is the same gun in .38 Special. Its my favorite hiking, camping, woods companion. I find the lugged barrel and adjustable sights add to both accuracy and shootability. The small size makes it easy to carry. I carry OWB in a good pancake style holster. I find it conceals quite well under a slightly over sized T-shirt. ;)
