UPDATED SEE POST 31

We all have one, a character flaw.

Mine is I'm never satisfied with what I have.

It used to be cars. Trading cars every 2 years gets expensive. That was back in the 90's when i was young and dumb. I out grew that, thankfully.

And even more thankfully, it never applied to women. Otherwise I'd be living in a boarding house and using the local library free internet to post. We'll be married 29 years this month.

But guns....different story. I wish I had a list of everything I bought, sold, or traded over the past 30 years. It would be a long, somewhat impressive list.

I've calmed down somewhat. Perhaps the recent reminders of my own mortality with the sudden passing of a classmate and another fighting a losing battle with cancer has made me realize that I have no heirs. They'll be sold off, by me or my estate.

Recently I picked up a Glock 45, a Colt AR15A4, and a Rossi R92 in .357 Magnum. I traded towards the Glock, I had cash for the Colt, and the Rossi was the result of a sudden small windfall.

The Rossi was nice, but it's not a Winchester. So I found a Winchester (Miroku) 1873 Serial #1 2022 production in .357 Mag. Had to have it. So I sold the Rossi (at a loss, of course) to help pay for the Winnie.

OK, now I have what I want.

But I saw something else, and it's pulling at me.

But...I pretty much burned up my gun slush fund. To get it, I'd have to sell off some pistols/revolvers. I know some of them would be very welcomed here if I posted them for sale on the Forum.

I'm not sure what to do. Part of me wants the shiny new gun. Part of me says don't sell what you have, you'll never replace it (which is true, at least at the price I paid for them BITD).

And in the end, they're all going to be sold anyway.

Advice? Input? Tell me I'm a nutcase?

But not sure how to proceed with this,

I used to have a bad case of acquisitiveness lol.Bigger and bigger houses, better jeeps and trucks etc,etc and then I had to retire a decade earlier than planned followed by a divorce and the recession-Yikes!
I learned that keeping up with that took a lot of work to pay for it and maintenance was also a huge time eater,so I went in a different direction and spent my time hiking, snowshoeing, skiing kayaking and fishing and I'm glad I did that. I can't do those things anymore, but I had a ball while I could. Times all we really have ,make the most of it!

Squirrel ! ! ! :D

I get it. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be much help. I'm in a similar situation, but I figure I've rationalized my way to an answer. As long as you have a roof overhead, the bills get paid, you eat well and can give to those that matter . . . . Have at it! Buy what you want, when you want. Let the survivors sort things out upon your departure. You worked for it, enjoy it.

A good friend has been diagnosed with a slowly progressing, but terminal lung disease. The only real treatment is a lung transplant and he's on the list. He is enjoying life with the fruits of his labors. He's on a heckuva gun buying spree. He's travelling, going to concerts, playing at the gun club. He's a contented, happy person and you'd never know of his predicament unless he tells you. I tell him that he's the man I want to be when I grow up. He will let the survivors handle things and isn't at all concerned about his actions today.

I got bit by the HK bug this summer.

The SP5 and SP5K absolutely killed my gun fund.

I still feel the need for a HK 91 and 93.

I've also thought about selling a couple of my 3" K's, and maybe even my 2.5" 686 to fund one of the above.

Honestly the only S&W revolver I shoot the most, and best for some reason in my 4" 10-8.

QuikDraw, My understanding is that you are younger than me. I thought I had all the guns that I wanted that I could afford. But three weeks ago, word hit here on the Forum about a load of SigSauer .45 P220s that were traded in by the Connecticut State Police. A few hours later I was walking out of the shop with one. Never say never.

We all know we aren't going to live forever, but we don't know how much time we have. I can't speak for everyone, but I will say that I would like my things to go to people who could appreciate them, and I don't want the nice things I've accumulated being let go for fire sale prices.

I don't have any children or grandchildren. I have 2 nephews by blood, my "honorary" nephew (I'm a friend of the family) and cousins out the wazoo. It took a lot of thinking and a lot of writing, but I think I came up with a pretty good idea of who should get what. And nothing is set in stone until you're laying under a stone.

An addendum to this.

Out of all the stuff in the accumulation, I probably shoot only 10% of it.

I'd say half of it is unfired, ANIB/LNIB. It should be easy to say "Yeah, I'll sell this, this, and this, and get that".

But it isn't.

Maybe it's better I leave very detailed, specific instructions as to dispose of it after I die.

Because selling it would kill me.

And I still haven't made up my mind about the possible new addition.

If acquisition syndromes are character flaws, I've got two of them. Guitars are my number one. I have around 50 and keep buying new ones, about one a month.

Buying ammo is my number two. I buy at least two or more cases a month and I'm running out of room for all of it. I need another house or else I better start shooting more.

When I was in my late teens and still doing auto work I had a minimum of 3 cars at any given time. If I'd sold any more than I did I would've had to be licensed as a dealer... had to pay for new parts for the camaro and truck somehow, the drag strip kills a man's wallet. The only problem I have with guns is that I always seem to need a new safe.

Quickdraw, I only have 2 words for you...BUY IT!

As for me I've always had a gun boat and car problem. Had 5 boats at one time. I did have a commercial fishing and guides license though. When I got married in 71 I sold 63 Winchester M-12s and bought a house. I still miss some of them. Sold the vettes jag SS Chebbies and the motorcycles. Only vehicles I ever regret selling was the 63 Split Window and a 1950 Ford F1 with a flathead in it. Nothing sounds like a flathead! So as I said Buy It! Ya ain't getting younger. I'm doing a gun show this weekend. um, umm A Guys got an Ithaca Mag 10 to show me...I still haves lots of ammo and decoys
