For the 1st time in well over a decade, I am a Glock owner.

When I started shooting handguns in the early 90's, Glocks were the hottest thing. But I never warmed up to them. It wasn't for lack of trying. I had the 17, 19, 21, and 21SF.

They were good, reliable pistols, but the triggers and ergonomics left a lot to be desired IMHO.

As some of you know, I love the 3rd Generation S&W pistols.

But I was interested in the Glock 45 MOS when I read about it. My LGS had one, and I traded a Walther CCP M2 9mm against it.

The selling points were that it has an ambidextrous slide release, and the mag release can easily be changed to be southpaw friendly (which the LGS did for me).

35 shots, 5 shot strings. Used Norma 115gr FMJ, Freedom Munitions 124gr FMJ, and Federal 147gr JHP. No FTF/FTE issues.

2 handed grip, 25 feet indoors. FBI Q target.

The trigger is the best I've ever felt on any striker fired pistol. The LGS owner tells me that Timney makes a trigger for the 45, but I'm happy with how it is now.

Don't worry, I'm not going to sell off all my 3rd Gens and become a raving Glock fanboi.

But I am impressed.

I carried this G45 the final four years of my police career. It has 5,100 rounds through it.

I have several Glocks and while plastic and not as pretty as a blued Smith they are reliable. Seems the more I spend on a pistol the more trouble I have with it. The exception was a G19 with a factory ported barrel. I had to keep it somewhat clean or it would malfunction. So I bought a wolf unported bbl and gave it to my son. The others got sweaty, wet, some surface rust etc but still went bang. And the simplicity is nice, even with experience. I took the Glock armorers course - I was shocked at the simplicity and low tech. Not saying it didn't take a lot of engineering to get it what it is.

Have you tried a Walther PPQ, a Canik TP9, a Grand Power Q100 with the flat trigger, or a Grand Power Q1s ? They might surprise you with how good they are.

The original Steyr M9 also has a superior trigger to any Glock I have tried. I picked up an Arex Delta 2 that I've yet to shoot and I find the trigger on that pretty good dry firing. Guess when I get to the range I'll find out if it works as well as Graham Baates on Youtube says it does.

Like you wasn't a Glock guy but recently bought a Gen 4 31 and love it. I did make some changes. Changed trigger for a Timney Alpha Gen 3 - 4 and added Tru Glo TFO night sights. Gun handles the 357sig very well. Contemplating ordering a Gen 4 32 and adding it to my carry group. Although I use the 31 for home defense I found the 31 to be lightweight for the size and capacity and could be carried comfortably. I prefer smaller size guns for carry which has me looking at the 32. Love this round as it really thumps my steel targets.

Nice report, thanks. Personally I am waiting for a Glock revolver. Hopefully that will never happen :-)

One of my best friends is into modifying Glocks for local law enforcement. They perform well and he is a demanding customer. But I do not like their looks, or their feel. Kinda of like dating boys. OK for some but not for me.

I'm glad to see you gave the brand another try.

Personally, I don't get it that some people think it's an "either or" situation with some firearms.

"Either you hate Glocks or you are a Glock fan boy."

"If you like Glocks you must hate all other brands."

"If you like 1911's you must hate Glocks, or vis versa."

My favorite is "I've never shot a Glock and I never will but they suck."

Excellent choice for sure. Now mount an optic, green dot is the most visible color to the eye and have at it. The wife and I each have matching G-45’s as house guns, we always have them close.

Holosun we like a lot, you can buy two of them direct from them if you qualify. I have one of the SCS models on a 19-5 that is slick as snot.

Regards, Rick Gibbs

I have about a dozen Glocks in my safe. I love them. I also love my S&W revolvers, my 1911's, etc. Loving one doesn't mean hating the others.

I never felt the urge to do anything with the Glock trigger. It doesn't have the crispness that the 1911 trigger has, but it's entirely adequate and I can do surgically accurate work with my 19X (the coyote color version of your 45).

Yeah. I never understood that mentality.

I've had all the major manufacturers guns over the last 30 years, and the only one can say was a total piece of **** was Auto Ordnance Tommy gun carbine.

Others have their quirks, but they were all good, reliable firearms.

Unabashed Glock CCW user for decades, so WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE !!!!

VERY hard to beat a G19 for just all around carry duty imo. Small enough to conceal well and large enough to shoot well.

Mine current EDC is a Gen 4 G19FS, a limited run "Summer Special" from 2017 IIRC. Runs like a scalded dog with anything you feed it, including nasty, smokey Russian steel case ammo.

So yeah they don't appeal the way a 1911 or revolver does...but they certainly do the job they're designed for and that's one reason they're a world class fighting standard.

YMMV.

You are allowed ONE, and mind you only ONE dalliance from the S&W camp. Any further discretions on your part will cause a swarm of upset forum members to descend upon your house and take you out back for a good whippin'. I had a Glock 27 and loved it. Best self defense gun in my mind, but just too much now for my aging hand strength. Enjoy your new toy you traitor!!!!!
