Anyone else apprehensive about being in large public, or private gatherings? I used to go out in public and not give it a second thought. Now I am not very comfortable in large public places with a lot of people. Don't get me wrong, I still go but seem to watch everyone much closer now, how they are acting and what they are doing. With so many mass shootings, beatings, car jackings etc. it just flat out scares me, mostly for my family. Used to carry sometimes and some places, now it always and everywhere. Should something breakout I'm heading for cover like everyone else but won't go down without a fight.

I am not that worried myself . I was around in the early 90's, when the homicide and violent crime rare was much higher then it is now. It was almost twice as high till shortly before the pandemic.

Never liked crowds, and gave up crowded public places decades ago. Have also successfully avoided large cities for quite awhile now. Up here, like a lot of low income rural areas, it's the wild eyed meth heads ya gotta keep a look out for. It appears to be getting pretty bad in some cities, but ain't planning on visiting them anyway. Am in the largest city in the county, pop=2,400.

Nope, not at all.

Quite the opposite actually. I don't seek out large events, nor do I avoid them if they are relevant to me.

Most "Mass Shootings" as reported by the slanted media are gang related, not a lone gunman with a defective grey-matter container.

Refuse to be a victim and refuse to let others control your daily activities.

Carry every day, train often.

Watch less of the "news" channels and you'll feel a lot better about life…
Not to mention live a healthier life. I still believe that my heart trouble came about through my own stupidity for watching and listening to the "news" 8,10,12 hours a day till I was mad enough to chase cars, kick tires, and chew on the steering wheel. Three or so years of that stress and my body said we are done! Now I pay attention just barely enough to stay up to date.

I stopped going to baseball games b/c of my handicap many years ago & never cared for going to a shopping mall. My EDC, a J Frame or LCP, is probably not the best choice for going after a mass shooter anyway.

Outside of the hoopla on the news (and forums), life outside seems normal. Then there are the ones who drive like idiots that pose the biggest threats. But I survived the '60s, so I think I'll make through the present.

If I know I'm going to be in a crowd I'm more likely to carry my Glock 19 and two extra magazines than my J-frame Smith.

That's just being smart........no paranoia involved.

(Well, not much anyway.)

:)

Not apprehension, but I get what you're talking about.

I work for Littleton PD part-time in a non-sworn position. Littleton is of course the home of Columbine High School.

I go to the movies in Aurora, home of the Dark Knight mass shooting.

I live down the road from Boulder, home of a recent King Soopers mass shooting.

I used to carry based on the extremely unlikely chance some nutcase I locked up way back when is holding a grudge.

I have since added the possibility I may want to shoot some whacko in tactical garb and a propeller hat with an AR in the grocery store parking lot.

Voluntarily avoiding large crowds (concerts, etc.) is easy, just don't go. If you must for work or social reasons, having some realistic risk assessment is always a good idea.

For the rest of life, LTC Jeff Cooper's color code system is a good one to keep in mind. Yellow should be standard ("relaxed awareness") and if you are good with that the colors almost certainly won't get more intense.
