Hello all,
I've got a really nice S&W m042, which I know needs no explanation on this board.
Yep, one of the approximate 4,000 that escaped captivity.

I'm *maybe* thinking of selling it to fund another project, but I've seen prices wildly quoted as being between $500 and up to $800.

Don't have the box, and it currently sports the Pachmayr faux rosewood grips, but it does shine up nice.

Sorry about the lint, dust and grease in the pics, I didn't really notice it until I saw the large pix.

I value the member's opinions here, so before I put it up on some auction site, I was curious what you guys thought it might be worth.

Thanks, guys!

EDIT: All you grey beards like me might remember Dean Speir from Gun World Magazine, he did a write up this several years ago....

That, IMHO, is an ugly gun.

You'd do well to get $500 for it without original stocks (the current abominations aren't the original stocks).

Yeah, those Pachmayr fakes aren't the prettiest, but I'll probably drop on some simply rubber Hogue's.

It's a beautiful gun, I have only found one, and seen no others in person. I sold mine here on the classifieds several years ago for a price much lower than what it would bring today. Someone on the forum got a package deal, as I also sold them my 3" M640 at the same time.

I have watched them on GB and bid on a couple.

I would agree that $600 plus in that condition should not be an issue.

I have bailed out on bidding as some have broke $600 and kept climbing.

You can find original grips still so I don't see that as an issue.

If $500 is your price look no further:)

Good luck if you list it shoot me a PM where.

I have one but mine does not. Look as nice as yours. I carried mine for approximately 20 years. I also put regular J frame grips on mine. I carried it on duty in a vest holster and in an ankle holster and in a pocket holster.
