Replace a 4" 13-2 with what if you had say up to $1200 to spend?*UPDATE FROM GUN SHOW

Sadly I sold off my 4" model 13-2 awhile back for some needed items.

I will say as much as I liked it, I was not in love with it. Really only reason was no rear sights.

So this weekend is a local gun show in my area put on by a very good organization. Last one I attended in the spring revolvers were abundant and prices were decent.

In liquidating my arsenal I'm staying with rifle/handgun caliber interchangeability. I have a Henry Big Boy Black in 357 mag and plenty of components for reloading. Also have a sweet 2" model 10 no dash I regularly ccw.

I also have the $1200 to potentially spend. Would be nice if I could snag two pistols but we will see.

So my basic criteria;
357 magnum
6 shot
Adjustable rear sight
4" barrel
Really like K frame sizing

Doesn't have to be a S&W but has to catch the eye so to speak. This will be a one and done If I find what I'm looking for.

One of those revolvers that you know could do everything you wanted In my state of Ohio.

Colt Python.

That's on the list.

But I haven't fondled one in years. Size is a concern, why I want to stay around the K frame size.

Ruger GP100-too big.
Ruger SP 101- had a 3"- was ok but don't miss it. And only 5 shot.
Ruger Security Six? Possibly what I'm looking for?
Smith L and N frame-too big.

I like the new Model 66 Smith. K frame size with the barrel design fixed.

Should've put that in my OP. The 66 is on the list along with the 19 variants. I'm a stickler for good deep bluing though. lol

Given your criteria I don't see many options beyond the 4 inch M19. I'll always hang on to one Python, but the M19 is a better choice. Where I shop you're not going to get two for $1200, but you might have enough left over for some leather and ammo.

My one gun choice though for rifle/handgun caliber interchangeability, given your criteria less the limitation to .357 magnum 4 inch, would be my 696. Good luck.

Kimber K6 DASA would fit the criteria. I have the 4" combat fixed sight model and it is a really good revolver. I have shot the target model and prefer the sights on the combat model. Usually I prefer adjustable sights but they actually use really good sights on the combat model.

The Colt King Cobra would fit the criteria also. For $500 less than a python it be more inline with the stated price range and frame size.

If you find any new revolver with nice deep blueing let everyone on the forum know because we'd all be interested.

Had a K6S CDP two tone snubby. Nice revolver but hated the trigger.

Yeah I'm not up on the Colt's but I've seen them at this show before so will definitely check them out.

And sorry, not looking for anything new. No locks. Something older than that. Back when bluing was so blue and cold. lol

The current model 19 and 66 (4.25" barrels) have a modified design that eliminated the weak spot at the bottom of the forcing cone. If the Python appeals to you it is a great gun by report but a model 19/66 will be quite a bit less expensive. Good luck in your search.

So I know the 66 is new enough, what - 19 then? 4 or later?
I was actually thinking a -4 or earlier for pinned and recessed.
I'm aware of the throat issues with the older 19's but won't be pounding full house 357's through it. Mild 38spl loads but the ability to use full house 357's if the need ever presented itself.

I got a stainless 4" Security Six with some Herret walnut grips and it's my favorite woods gun and I don't mind if it gets some small scuffs or scratches. My Smith revolvers are all handled gently and I wouldn't want anything to happen to them. The GP 100 is too big and heavy but the Security Six is Sweet!

If you should happen across one, don't overlook the old Ruger Security Six. Excellent revolvers that meet your criteria. But they are getting harder to find.

It's actually on my list and I did see a couple last time at this show. Decent prices too.
