Replace a 4" 13-2 with what if you had say up to $1200 to spend?*UPDATE FROM GUN SHOW

Just not sure if an L frame is what I'm looking for. Will need to fondle one and see. I'm thinking they're in the GP100 size range?

Little lighter and streamlined.Stocks are more of an old coke style so the grips alone fit flatter against the body when carrying if that helps

L frame revolvers share the K frame grip. Heavier cylinder, frame and under lug do change the balance. I find that the 4" Ls work very well. What they give up in weight and compactness they gain in better recoil management which pays off in quicker follow up shots.

With the K frame .357s it's generally considered safe to shoot current production 158 grain magnum loads. Lighter bullets like the 125s are to be avoided.

I have a 19-3 and a 686-1. The timer shows the K frame is faster out of the holster but L frame wins out on multi shot strings. The 19 gets the nod if I'm going to be carrying it all day.

Since you state that you intend to shoot it primarily with .38s you should also consider a Combat Masterpiece. A model 15 or 67 would seem to fit right in.

Good luck.

+1 on the pre-lock Model 19 suggestion, as well as the Ruger Security Six. The latter especially if you plan to shoot more Magnums than Specials. You should be able to find great examples of both under your top-end price.

The 586 or 686 do look appealing with the K size grip and L size frame with my size large hands.

Not super worried about faster follow up shots versus concealability.

I carried the 4" 13-2 IWB in a Don Hume leather holster comfortably so don't want something any more cumbersome than that.

Really looking like a 19-something or 66 or a Ruger Security Six.

Well if you can find one ...for me it would be ...

a 3" 66 (-2 to -4) for concealed carry

second choice a 4" 586-5 from the mid-90s grip frame and trigger reach of a K frame.... the -5 are pre all the MIM and lock.... and as a bonus are round butt from the factory.

Third choice a 4" 19 (no dish to -4) for pinned and recessed.

I would go with a 586/686 or a Security 6, with the Ruger being so close in size that they share leather with the K frame. Either would handle pretty much whatever your Henry can handle. I'm not familiar enough with the Kimber for a nay or a yay. The new versions of a 19/66 would probably serve your needs also, but I'm not a fan of new production S&W's.
For pure shooting pleasure, an older 19/66 is the cream of the crop. take care in what you feed them, however.

This might be heresy on this forum, but a lot of imports like Taurus were virtual copies of the Smith K.

Go ahead, start the tar a'boiling

So my basic criteria;
357 magnum
6 shot
Adjustable rear sight
4" barrel
Really like K frame sizing

Doesn't have to be a S&W but has to catch the eye so to speak. This will be a one and done If I find what I'm looking for.

One of those revolvers that you know could do everything you wanted In my state of Ohio.
Right up until you very specifically stated this...

Not sure what Ohio has to do with it versus any other state in the union, but one of the biggest gun-related variances from state to state is "what is legal for deer hunting."

If that is anywhere on your to-do list then you have a conflict. To be legal for deer in Ohio (HANDGUN) it needs to be straight wall cartridge, .357 Magnum or larger, and 5-inch barrel minimum.

Deer hunting may be of zero interest to you, I have no idea, but you did say "everything you wanted in my state of Ohio."

I do know our laws well. lol

In fact I've taken more deer with handgun than any other method of hunting. Right now that's my Kimber 5" custom II in 10mm.

My explanation of a "do all" and why I specifically stated Ohio is because we have no danger of any large four legged critter that a 357 wouldn't take care of. It means if it's the last thing I can grab to take with me that "could" do everything I needed it to do. Putting food on the table is worth an inch shorter barrel seeing they don't make a 5" revolver in my criteria and 6" is longer than I want to ccw if necessary.

Okay, you know our laws well... do you know our history well? When that guy outside Zanesville lost his mind, let all of his wild African safari animals free and then killed himself, LE didn't handle that problem with 4-inch .357's! :D

No, I certainly don't believe this is a typical threat but it is Ohio related so it seemed fun to throw it in.

Go shiny

How about a nice 65-2

Well you want the wow factor, buy yourself a smython,or have one made in stainless. You will be on the edge of your 1200 but you might have more bbl lengths to pick from and are not mass produced!
