Yep, probably one of a kind. S&W didn't make one, so I decided to do it and ended up with what I feel is a pretty cool carry piece.

The hardest part was getting up the nerve to file the raw ratchets on the new cylinder. I bought the file and after doing the first one, which took me about 40 minutes (IIRC), I got the hang of it and by the time I got to the 6th one, it took me far less.

Also, the crane is nickel, not SS. I couldn't find a stainless one, (I searched for almost a year), so I came pretty close to matching the finish by electroplating a blued one after I had stripped off the finish with vinegar.

a few pictures of a pre 36 model of 1953 Chief Special and a circa 1965 .22 LR model 34-1 for your viewing pleasure.
Hope you enjoy

I have a good number of J-frames, but this one is the most unusual in my collection. It's a transitional kit gun - the frame was made prior to WWII, but put together with more modern parts and shipped in 1951. These guns are extremely rare. Only 25 were made similarly, according to Roy. That's an original high polish blue finish, not nickel.
