Made a change of life decision today

Getting rid of old Blue :( Kinda like putting Angus down but it's time. Doesn'y make it easier.
The new put is expected in at the end of the month. A Toyota Tacoma TRD V6 Off Road in 4WD. Lunar gray with LED headlights (extra) and a bunch of little stuff I didn't need or care for, like a blackout package and locking tailgate and the pit pat stuf Toyota always adds. Basically my non negotiable was LED lights so I can finally see at night and able to tow the whaler. Next year the V6 will not be available as they are going ot the turbo 4. Spec sheet says it will be a bit more powerful than the V6 but I'm still not there yet. FOr towing I want a naturally aspirated engine not a force fed turbo whose existance is mainly to balance out the EPA mileage estimates for across the line. That plus I never like to buy the first year of a re-design (which is why I bought old blue as a 1999 rather than wait for the redesigned 2000-history has provem me correct as she has lasted almost 24 years and almost 460000 miles)
The capper for choosing the smaller Tacoma over the BIG Tundra is that the Hillux is the most used truck in the world, and millions of muslim terrorists can't be wrong. :p :D
Looking forward to driving it around the cane fields shooting stuff out the window with my AK47 ;)

I always watch for Caj's post, they make me smile. Thanks

After almost 50 years of Chevy/Buick/ Oldsmobile I went with the 2022 Nissan Frontier. Double the horsepower of the 4.3 Silverado (19 mpg no A/C, 17 with) and 24.6 mpg combined with the A/c running. Drives like a sportscar and the 4 door crew cab is so much more comfortable then "double *****" with the Chevy. Too bad we need foreign to get quality, at least they assemble them here. Joe

And I believe the Tacoma is made in Texas other other than drivetrain if that matters to anyone.

Mine was built in Texas.

"While the Tacoma was once produced in the United States, Toyota now builds the Tacoma at Toyota Motor Manufacturing de Guanajuato in Apaseo el Grande, Mexico. Citing the need to reduce overhead—namely in the form of labor—Toyota shifted production from San Antonio, Texas, to Mexico in 2021."

I bought my '14 Tacoma Off-road new. At 108k, it has been trouble-free with only periodic maintenance. I went with the access cab because the bed is fairly useful and I can put a few things behind the front seats. People will fit back there but they have to be child-size or really despise walking. The dealer got me my desired manual transmission, but they weren't all that plentiful even in 2014.

I added a 2-low modification so I can dawdle around in low range without the front wheels engaged. Makes slow going and tight turns easy since there's no binding. Just like leaving front hubs unlocked except you don't have to get out of the truck. It's simple to go between 2-low and 4-low with the click of a button. Toyota could have offered this from the factory. Another position on the rotary switch, a couple wires and software change would have done it. Cost and perceived to be unneeded I suppose.

I predict you'll be happy with your new ride, Caj. Toyota builds stout and reliable pickups. I think you're smart to get the last of the naturally aspirated V-6 engines. Early adopters are beta testers, IMO. While I've had two cars with turbocharged engines, I wouldn't want one in a truck. I especially wouldn't want a newly designed, turbocharged engine - in a truck.

Use to own a old Toyota land cruiser. Would go most places with fun. Now Toyota gives me just what I need when the neighbor says "How can you drive that thing". It's a Hummer H3. I just point at the wife's, daughters and son in laws 3 Prieses parked in the driveway. I will keep driving exactly what I want. Tacoma will be next.

Having owned an "Old Blue" you will surely miss it. Ours would have never made that many miles, think it was around 200,000 and rusted out so bad you could watch the road go by under your feet. Had a Tundra for 7 years, great truck, horrible gas mileage but I loved it. Traded for a Lexus SUV as I really didn't need a truck anymore.

A lot of people seem to have good luck with GM trucks and big SUVs but I've owned about 5 GM cars and they were all very average to below average in reliability. My last GM was a top of the line 2008 Buick LaCrosse and right after the warranty was out the power door locks started going out. First one, then another, then another until all four went out and were replaced, then lots of front end parts, oil leaks, transaxle leaks, by 100K miles both seat heaters and cruise control went out and the car had turned into a money pit. We kept it to 150 K miles and sold it and it still looked great because we took very good care of it but the resale was awful, I think we got $3,800 for it.

Before the Viking sendoff, I could use the glovebox door. Mine's broken. :)
