Unless I anticipate recreational shooting along the way or at my destination, I bring a Colt 1911, the magazine in the gun and two spares: 22 rounds.
How much ammo do you bring when traveling?

Consolevault in my Suburban always contains a 9mm with 5 loaded mags secured vertical by a magnetic strip. Behind a panel in the back is a breakdown Ruger .22 with a half dozen boxes of ammo. When flying I do not bring a handgun, as I only fly when heading out of country.
Sounds more than adequate to me .

With a DA revolver, enough for what's in the gun, a full speed strip, and two extra reloads in an ammo wallet.

Usually none, but I'm going to change that because Ohio has great reciprocity with CCW. Problem is one of my relatives live in Cali so can't go there with any CCWFlorida kind of has reciprocity.
Last time I was in Pa. visiting a friend who has a CCW, he could not carry in Ohio and they could not carry in Pa. But the guy from Florida could carry in both......go figure. I was the duty ccw wherever we went.
When flying, the gun or guns are in gun rugs in my checked suitcase.
Ammunition is in original boxes or MTM caseguards which are placed in the same checked suitcase
The suitcase is a hard shell Samsonite with a (non-TSA) keyed lock on each side and a combo lock under the handle

On the plane I usually check a 442 or vintage cobra with a speed loader and a box of 50.If I'm driving a 442 and a model 36 or 2 vintage cobras with 2 speedloaders and 200 rounds...and Grimjaws when flying the ammo cannot be in the case with the gun but I keep it in the same suitcase.

Multiple night trips.......
649 pocket + 2 speedloaders , Browning hp in gear bag 2 x mags.
Banjo case in trunk , could not play a note of music if life depended on it.
But if life depends upon it the Remington 7615 is the instrument at hand.
Only problem carrying my bango case in to the hotel one night out in Colorado and a fellow said he and a couple of buddies were going to pick in the lobby and asked me to join them. Made my excuse, too tired.
We live in very strange times.

I at one time had a violin case that was carried around. In the case was an M1A1 Carbine and five 15 shot magazines. Got stupid and sold it.......

We dont fly so, wheel is full and 1 extra speedloader full
I don't fly, so all my traveling is by truck. I bring my EDC and two extra magazines, as well as a secondary weapon with two extra mags packed away in my bags.
I’m kind of weird, different, strange, you decide. I don’t fly. We drive to Florida for four months a year. I take Five guns reloads for each. Many reloads. Also I shoot in Florida. I took 700 rounds of 9mm and a couple hundred 38spl. I shot the 700 9mm. So ordered another 1,000. I don’t do a lot of other traveling. If I go somewhere for a weekend, no shooting involved, just my carry guns would go. My XDM3.8 or Glock26 for the waist. Each has several mags. I carry one extra and have a bag with the others. A pocket J-Frame never leaves me and a speed strip is also carried. The ammo bag also has more strips and speed loaders. Every day run around would be, one of the semis in my belt with extra mag and J-Frame in my pocket with extra speed strip.
Combat Commander and two spare mags. Makes no difference when I fly.
I am very near retirement so I do not fly anymore unless I have to in an emergency. When driving somewhere I will take one fully loaded carry gun, one full standard capacity mag, one extended mag, one holster, one mag pouch, one flashlight, and my badge/creds. I also take one case that does not look like a pistol case that will hold all of the above. That will likely be unused, but I want it available if I need it.
The holster will be an AIWB. I have come to like that form of carry after many years of resisting it because it allows quick and easy access anywhere, including driving. I have managed to keep all of my upper body above and behind my belt so I am able to carry a full size auto AIWB comfortably with the right holster, although I do mostly carry a compact off duty. There are many reasons NOT to have a weapon in your vehicle and it NOT be on your person, but that is another discussion. I used to keep one in the truck, but AIWB and seeing first hand some of the cons suffered by others has eliminated that for me.
If something comes up that I need to use it, I suspect the reason for my trip will be over at that point and I would not need more. If for some reason I do I will source it locally. If I feel that there is a possibility that I will encounter something that will require more ammo than that….. I stay home.
If I am staying somewhere like a cabin for a week or two, I will take along a small PCC, possibly a can (state dependent), and 4 full mags in a discreet case. When I leave the cabin it gets locked up in my vehicle with me (trunk or lockable storage bolted to the truck) , and comes back inside when I return.

2 over nights , I carry 1911 w/2 extra mags. Over a week ,I carry 2 extra mags and 50 rounds in box.

...Benzonker5 and anyone else who depends on a pistol for self defense with no spare mag. What happens if you get that rare, but does happen, the dreaded double feed?
In tactical training on the third round with a 15 round mag it happened to me. Only once in over 10 years, but without that spare mag I would be out of the fight and probably dead. Just sayen.
