The Elusive 10 dollar a box 9mm

Hit an estate sale this morning and found 4 cases of GECO 124gr 9mm, the woman was asking 8 bucks a box, bought all 4 cases along with 2 cases of 38sp 130gr fmj, 1/2 case of .357 at 11 a box, 3 cases of PPV 180gr JHP 40 s&w for 10 a box and several nib invicta's, found the wife some nice blue topaz and several Toby jugs that I didn't have. Also found a Cuisinart 14 cup coffee maker still in it's sealed package for 10 bucks. If I'd gotten their earlier I would have gotten my hands on loads of gunpowder, primers, cases and loaders, but then again I'm happy.

The only ammo I didn't touch was those plastic cased ammo from back in the early 80's in .38 special, she had about 40 boxes but since I wasn't too sure about their condition I passed, I have fired those back in the 80's and found them to be decent. The one thing I really wanted was a whole restored AGIP gas pump with globe but she wouldn't budge off of 5k for it.

You made a great deal/steal. Should have bought the plastic ammo too. It is collectible. What size boxes??.

Today, I was sent up to the Chicago suburbs to pick up a used Cadillac SUV. I stopped at Bass Pro to get a pair of waterproof hiking style boots ($49.00) and an additional pair of cargo shorts.

They had lots of ammo and I bought 2 100 packs of Herter's 9mm for $25.00 each. They had Remington for $35. The last Herters brand I bought had been made by Winchester. I absolutely had no need for it, but I was 100 miles from home and had my Cabela's credit card with me.

Luckily I still have plenty of SD ammo in a bunch of calibers including 9mm, 45 ACP and 38/357. I have a large box full but only because I didn't shoot many of them over the past several years and shot with the range ammo I loaded.

I don't know what I have, never counted it but it's plenty. These are mostly in 50 round boxes so you know I've had them for a good long while. (including Winchester Silvertip 9mm ammo) I will be using up a bunch testing which ammo shoots best and most reliability in my new Springfield Hi-Power. (it looks like the 124gr Speer GDHP 9mm ammo might be the one)

I'm very happy to see ammo prices starting to drop. There is hope yet for a semi-normal shooting environment.

I was at the Reno, Nv. gun show a couple weeks ago. .25 acp ammo was $35/box. Later in day took a side trip to Scheels and the same ammo was $25/box. Sheels shelves were loaded with ammo. I didn't check primers or powder, though. Seems like whenever the big gunshow is in town, Scheels has plenty of ammo, and they were abnormally crowded, to the point that we quit shopping and left.

Gun shows used to be a place to get stuff at a good price. Now it seems the only tables at gun shows are people who think they won the lottery because they have certain products that are hard to find. They'll be eating those products now since the market has eased up.

Sorry, I just checked to see if this was an old thread from ten or fifteen years ago. To be sure.

The best I've seen is $13.00 a box in store.

In my area ( northern Arizona) prices still seem to be hovering at 14-16 per box for garden variety 9mm. Best I could do in a while was 13.50 per box, when buying a full case. And primers are still scarce and expensive

$15-$18 for a box of 50 FMJ 115 or 124 grain practice ammo in my area, premium ammo is a whole lot more.

Runnings near me has 9mm ( I forget brand) for 10.99 box often. I stopped yesterday and 5.56 at 10.99 box of 20 was selling pretty fast. Walmarts and Runnings are both starting to have Remington Core Lokt rifle ammo on a regular basis. In popular calibers. Good to see big green getting caught up .

I actually saw some 223/5.56 at under 10 bucks...9.29 a box of 20.. cheapest I've seen in a few years?? IMI Is that pretty good? I don't buy 223

Went to a local show yesterday. Dealer still had CCI SPP for $150 and 1lb. cans of powder @ $50.
I hope it’s because they don’t want to cut the price and people aren’t buying it.
The greedy creeps.
