Speer 158 FMJ +p

158 gr FMJ non +P might be slow enough to stick a bullet in your barrel. Speer no longer even provides load data for 158 gr jacketed bullets in the .38 spl

Since my '41 model Pre-Victory will be strictly a range gun I'll stick with the non+P. It could probably handle the +P easily but why take that chance? At least the prices for 38 special seem to be easing up a little for now. PS: Ammoseek has a few other vendors selling the ammo at the same price.

The reason they don't provide data.....

Is because .38s, especially the short barreled ones, don't stabilize the bullet adequately and keyholing is common. I've never come close to sticking a 158 gr. bullet in the barrel with a variety of loads.

I picked up 2 boxes of this load at a show in 2010. I always carry a SpeedStrip of these rounds. The jacketed bullets do not incur damage as lead or HP rounds would do from pocket carry and the nickeled cases do not tarnish. +P is an added benefit.

Check your Speer manuals. Possibility of sticking the bullet is the reason Speer gives, especially in long barrels where friction might overcome low velocity. And how can you know how close you might have come to sticking a bullet? Happened to a friend when he ruined the barrel on a near mint S&W 1899 with a 6 1/2" barrel length I think it had.

Fed.Ex. dropped off a 10 boxes of those little Speer 158 gr. FMJ +P's. Price was superior for anything else I've seen. Have been hording 10 boxes of nice Remington 125 gr. JHP's that I found and bought back when WalMart still had some common sense. Now, I can take my beloved revolvers and have some fun at the range! Will a jacketed factory round stick in the barrel? I don't know. I do know I've never had any kind of jacketed factory round stick in anything ... revolver, pistol or rifle. Doubt Speer has gone to the level of a third world producer. Everything I've ever bought with the Speer name on it has always been top quality. Sincerely. bruce.

I completely agree. I have never heard of a factory round which wasn't defective sticking in a barrel that wasn't damaged.

I'm sure all reputable ammo manufacturers build in adequate safety margins to prevent that.

Shoot them, have fun and be safe...
