Walked into my LGS and was handed this 624 in the proper S&W BLW 624 holster. In good shape but needs a good cleaning and the finish on the grips is gone. It goes nicely with the short barreled 24-3 I got recently. Serial # is ALU0510 so I think it is one of the first Lew Horton's?

A nice surprise. Edited - Oh I bought it.

So did you buy it? That's one of my "I want one" guns. Congratulations!

Mind sharing what they were asking? I should have bought one when they were still 3 figure prices. Oh well, just have to stick with my 696 for a while I reckon.

Love a 44 special.

Yes, of course I bought it. Owner was asking $1050 and I got it for $875 with the S&W holster that was offered with them at the time.

There was one local to me for a number of months that just sat at over $1200, just the gun and it had been bead blasted. Went in a couple of days ago and it sold.

You got an outstanding deal, enjoy!

Grips are in the acetone and the gun is in penetrating oil. Grips will be re-finished and the gun will be stripped down. The gun will get cleaned and the major parts will get a soak in Metal Rescue as there is some minor rusting under the grips.

I own a LH 624. One can tell a LH vs a S&W by the Grips. The LH grips have a rounder curve at the end and a less pronounced little finger holder.
the Grips alone are selling for hundreds of $$$ so My 624 now supports Hogue Rubber grips. They are wonderful. I also have two types of holsters that were offered buy LH. One is a pancake holster and the other is a Tom Threeperson holster. The Threeperson was offered by S&W directly. This is the gun you`ll meet if you enter my house unannounced:)

My 624 has the original 6.5" barrel and was lucky to snag an original S&W holster for it. But she's not alone in the safe. I also have a 24-3" barrel and a 24-3 with the 4" barrel. Kinda went on a 44 special quest some years back. Frank

I've decided I like the shortened combat grips that came on my 24-3. I thinned them down and smoothed them out along with re-setting the medallions. Gun is very manageable with with every load I've put through it, including the Black Hills Thunder Ranch 250 grain loads I put in it. I would still prefer the grips intact but that decision was made for me.

Congratulations, you got a great deal on it! Looking forward to seeing after you finish the refurb.

Good looking revolver! Personally, not a big fan of the 3” barreled N frames. My body shape does not allow them to conceal as well as the 4”.

The butt is not held in as well.

But, not everyone is built the same and few carry an N frame concealed.

I ordered a 3" 24-3 from Horton's and got a LH belt holster at the same time. Carried it for a number of years! (I weighed about 150-160 back in the '80s.) Also got a shoulder holster, forget the brand, which worked quite well. Horizontal configuration rather than vertical. My favorite non concealed holster was one of the Roger's kydex paddle rigs. However, it turned out to be cold sensitive. Broke a couple where it goes over the belt.

More grip than some would want or need on a three inch, but they sure look good and make the Underwood 190 gr. Hollow Points a breeze to shoot.

The grips are early Jim Badger in Goncalo I believe, and I have replaced the machine screw with a more traditional one. The smooth rounded design of the grips make them very comfortable to carry.
