We don't have a forum dedicated to grips/stocks, but most of what is shown here would be from this era...If the mod staff feels this thread belongs in a different section, feel free to move it...
I alluded to this in another post, but I feel this subject deserves its own thread...A friend (whom many here knew and will remember) passed away some time ago...His collection is now a Texas legend, and many of us have been acquiring from his estate, the items in our own fields of interest...This weekend the man who is helping to liquidate his collection stopped me early Saturday morning before show opening time to say he had a few grips to show me...I know to take a hint like that seriously, so I made a visit immediately...The pics below illustrate his idea of "a few grips"...
I have not yet made an accurate count of what is here, but my conservative estimate is 100 pairs plus...I plan to at least count them today...Unseen in the photos is another slightly smaller cardboard box under the wooden ammo crate full of mostly loose panels and rubber Pachmayr/Hogue/Uncle Mike and such...Not wishing to cause any riots, I will not reveal what I had to give to take this home, but I think most here would agree the price was right...
These are not all factory S&W, some are aftermarket, many are just loose panels and a lot have missing screws...I visited with another friend who sells parts and cleaned out his supply of S&W grip screws, but I'll still need to find more...I have many hours ahead of me sorting, cleaning and separating what is pictured here...No thanks, I don't need any volunteers, another friend soon to retire who is familiar with woodworking has shown an interest in helping as soon as he's through with his 40 year tour of putting knotheads in jail...
After the exchange I was told I could also have the plastic tub as it would just be one more thing to haul around as the collection dwindles...I will be forever grateful to my friend who had so many years of enjoyment from trading, buying, selling and otherwise acquiring his massive estate, and to his friend and show partner who knew to come to me first for what he brought this weekend...I will try to continue his tradition in the few years I have remaining...I'll post again when I have a more accurate inventory...As for now, I have a little work to do...
