....well half of them anyway....

In January 1967 the Ada Oklahoma PD order 15 Nickel model 58's. They were shipped to the PD on March 27 1967.

c 1966 - looks like they had about 25 officers at the time. Population was 14-15,000.

Looks like a little over half got shiny new 58's :D

I have the serial number list if you have one in the s259xxx, s260xxx, or s261xxx range and want to check.

Here is mine. I have the original numbers matching stocks. The stags were on it for show.

Thanks for sharing! I've always liked the .41 Magnum, and my first ever handgun purchase was a 4" blued Model 57 in 1978. I've never owned a Model 58...I guess I just prefer to have the rear target sight. But the 58s are cool! I still have this 4" nickel Model 57 and it's one of my favorite revolvers. Enjoy!

I've never had any desire for a 41 Mag, but for a professional in Oklahoma, I can see where they might be desirable. I'm guessing they went to guys "on the street" in uniforms and at least 5 or so of those others in the pictures carried Model 36s or something similar. There are 6 men in plain clothes and another 4 in white hats suggesting other duties. I'd bet money those guys in the back row with the Smoky Bear hats got 41 Mags!

I am guessing the Smokey Bear hats were Traffic Accident Investigators. White hats were supervisors and dark hats were patrolmen. That is how we did on one of the PDs I worked for.

Back then stainless steel revolvers were not available so that is why they got nickle. About that time the Department I worked for, got in Model 10 two inch revolvers in blue. They were for Command Staff and Detectives. But the Chief's revolver was in nickle.

Looks like a lot of "senior" coppers in that pic.
Half them dudes look like they could retire....
Dig the model 58.

JMHO, but the Greatest Generation did not age well. With WWII, Korea and the way of life then. Being 1966, I would guess each man was a cigarette, cigar or a pipe smoker.
