My first year 5-screw HP (S114481) shipped in July 1954. Almost a birth month gun for me (Sept '54)! Enjoy! I agree, check the Forum's "Gunsmithing" section for qualified gunsmiths. I sent my .44 HE 3rd Model (1926 Wolf & Klar) for a tune-up to Ford's Custom Gun Refinishing (Crystal River, FL) because it was fairly local, and wasn't thrilled with their gunsmith's work. Good luck!

I definitely need to replace extractor rod on this one. Smith and Wesson custumer service will not touch anything that old anymore.

Yep, it's definitely got a bend in it! Could have resulted from someone doing too many one-handed "flip the cylinder open, flip the cylinder closed" routines. Are you going to replace the rod yourself?

The gun is 1954. I will either have original fixed or will have to find a another one that will work.

The first thing I would try is clamping it between two smooth-faced vice jaws to see if you can get enough of the bend out of it to function properly.
