OK, OK I wasn't drinking. Was researching Gunbroker to possibly reply to a thread about a 17-6. Ran across a somewhat rare beast, a long tube 17-5. Min bid was $750 and there were no bidders with a day and a half to go. Comes with the box. Pictures are not great but gun does not look to have had much use. So for fun I shot in a minimum bid thinking I would get skunked at the end of the auction. Nope, won the gun. Hoping my reading of the pics is accurate.

I think you did well. That long sight radius should make for accurate target shooting out to 50 yards.

I would have to do some upper body working out to be able to hold that thing even semi steady at arms length. I have enough fun with a 6inch.

I have done that before on GB, just toss a bid out for the heck of it. I have won a couple that surprised me.

I suspect that the grips may not be original to the revolver. I wouldn't be able to bid on anything from that vintage, at least for another twenty some years or until the courts shoot down California's handgun roster.

Yup, I'm sure it came with target stocks. The gun appears to be in great condition and the PC Magna's will be easy to remove. There's no grip screw!

I had a 8-3/8" K-22 back in the 70's. It came with a holster and was extremely accurate. I carried it at deer camp for one season, but ended up selling it. Money was tight back then and I got tired of it smacking me in the knee when I walked the woods!

I had a 6" model 17-5. It had the 3 Ts which is how I believe all -5 were configured. The target stocks on mine were walnut with no medallion washers. Fit and finish were not as good as stocks from a decade earlier.

So the correct stock for your gun should be checkered walnut target, with speed loader relief, and no medallion washers.

However a nice set of roesewood or Goncalo Alves target from an earlier time would dress it up well.

Nice buy. I don't drink but just bought a M42 on Gunbroker that I had been looking for. I didn't look at the pictures close enough. Hopefully it's not as bad as it seems.

The only thing I saw in the pics (maybe, maybe not) is it looks like (to me) the rear sight is cranked all the way up and the front blade looks like it may have been shaved ?

Maybe it shot low for someone's eyes to where they thought they had to regulate it ? In any event, since there's still plenty of front sight left if there was an issue it appears the previous shooter may have dialed it in. Or could be someone dialed it in for looonnnnggg range. Hopefully just my old eyes.

Yes I don't think the magnas are original. Don't see too many S&W's with TT, TH and magna grips as original. I think I have some K-targets in my stash, if not they are pretty easy to come by.

Came with service stocks. Dealer gave me targets from his stock.

Nice revolver but get rid of those grips. I jokingly bid on a 2nd series Colt Woodsman Target that looked terrible with red stuff all over it. I didn't think I'd win [only bidder] but I did. Got it for 385.00 [in 2018]. Turned out it was red lint not rust from the rag the seller had wiped it down with.

I'm pretty sure I posted a thread around 2008 about the dangers of cruising GB while enjoying some "Irish". All the guns looked better at closing time ..... I can't really say I regretted any of those actual purchases ... BUT ..... I think I got "saved" by some higher bids on my less than prudent interests .... PHEW !!

A lot of K-22's came with Magna stocks, but not that type.
The only adjustable sight K frame that came with "plain clothes" Magna's (aka modified Magna's) was the 2" model 15.

I think you did well. The picture seems to show that it is in great shape. Don't see many of those for sale. I agree; get some better stocks and you are in business!

Yes- I liked the fact that you don't see many 17-5s period, let alone a long tube. For those of you that have not shot one, the long tubes without the full lug balance much nicer than you would think and are generally very accurate. Not so good for CCW though
