Hey guys, I have a number of guns that I'm going to be selling soon and some I will sell here on the forum for a fair price, but a few I think I really need to put on GB to maximize what I get, because I really need the money to pay for my brainiac son's post-graduate science program.

I'm wondering if you guys would let me know what the value of some of these guns would be in the current market. If you want to differentiate between a "fair price" and a "GB price", I'd be interested to hear your appraisals:

29-3 - 3-inch barrel. Pre-lock Lew Horton with Box and Papers

627pc Bloodwork gun - prelock 8-shot snub with PC metal case and papers

629pc Bloodwork gun - prelock .44 magnum snub with PC metal case and papers. Low single digit serial number.

586 - 2.5 inch preflock made for Brazil PD but chambered in .357 magnum with box/papers

500ES - unfluted 500 snub nose (no orange case, just gun)

19-2 - 2.5-inch with Class A Factory Engraving and Kurac custom grips.

17-6 - rare(r) 4-inch barrel length with full underlug (box and papers)

Please don't PM me to buy these guns - this is not a classified ad.

I'll give you some educated guesses ($) but no offers. :) Other opinions will be incoming.

29-3 - 3-inch barrel. Pre-lock Lew Horton with Box and Papers ($1500)

627pc Bloodwork gun - prelock 8-shot snub with PC metal case and papers ($2000+)

629pc Bloodwork gun - prelock .44 magnum snub with PC metal case and papers. Low single digit serial number. ($2000+)

586 - 2.5 inch preflock made for Brazil PD but chambered in .357 magnum with box/papers ($2500)

500ES - unfluted 500 snub nose (no orange case, just gun) ($1750)

19-2 - 2.5-inch with Class A Factory Engraving and Kurac custom grips. (No idea, but RKMesa here will have a guess)

17-6 - rare(r) 4-inch barrel length with full underlug (box and papers) ($1250)

Hope your son is getting a worthwhile Master's or PhD and will buy you lots of guns later in gratitude.

What the heck is a Bloodwork gun?

In the movie Bloodwork, Clint Eastwood carried an 8-shot, N-frame .357 snub nose with an unfluted cylinder. S&W made a small run of these and they are highly desireable. They have since made larger runs with the lock, but the original "Bloodwork" guns have bigtime drool factor.

It's been awhile since I saw the movie, but I believe the original gun used in the movie "Bloodwork" had a fluted cylinder. The commercial version had the unfluted cylinder. I have read that there were 302 made, up until the lock version was produced. The original 302 produced were selling in the $3500 range, prior to the production of the locked versions. I don't recall seeing any of the non lock versions for sale lately to guess a value.

Yes, Clint did carry one in the movie, but it was a fluted cylinder version, not like the normally seen production guns..

Here's what it looked like...

Nice stash! I’d value the 627Bloodwork $2500 maybe more on GB but fees etc. 629 Bloodwork higher still. I’ll be looking for that for sale ad!

Shortly after the movie, the PC M627 (Blookwork) models were selling as high as $5000, the mania was fun to watch..... :)

...........

Interesting, I'm not aware that any of the M586's for Brazil were chambered in .357 Magnum, all I've seen were chambered in .38 Special.... ??

S&W originally referred to the 2-5/8" 627PC as the UDR (Ultimate Defense Revolver). It was a limited run Lew Horton Exclusive at the time, but they've produced several versions (with and without the lock) since then.

I picked one up in 2007 and discovered this forum trying to find some information about it. I stayed for the popcorn!

A buddy of mine busted my chops for months until I sold him the spare 627UDR

I sold him the higher of the two serial numbers for more than what I had into it . . . . $750

That was June 28th of 2002, just 42 days before Bloodwork hit the Theaters on August 9th :(

If I only knew then what I know now

I still have the remaining 3 revolvers

Go to Gunbroker and look them up in "Completed Auctions". You may find some and you may not. You will get a real world feel for what they are worth.

I know! That's what I thought when I bought it. I got a Jinks letter on it which said there only 50 (100?) made for Brazil, but they were never shipped, or something to that effect. I lost all my Jinks letters in a move two years ago and am still mad about it.

Interesting.... There's been quite a bit of discussion over the years about Brazil not allowing .357 Magnum revolvers (at least that's what I remember).
My Brazil M586 is one of the 23 that were released into the US shortly after 2000 when S&W was boycotted and needed $$ so they started cleaning out the vault, lots of interesting guns hit the market, while it wasn't a fun time for S&W, for collectors it was great.
