The older half of the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour passed away yesterday at the age of 86. His brother Dick was there and said it was related to cancer.

Very sad. I watch clips of their show all the time, and he was truly a comic genius.

Terrible year for 60s era musicians can't get over how many pasted away.
I loved his dry, dead pan delivery. He could make you laugh with just his facial expressions.
He also helped Guild sell a lot of D-55's.

I remember all his yo-yo tricks on the 1988 version of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. I’ve got several of his official yo-yo man wooden yo-yo’s. Watching him on TV I actually got pretty good with yo-yo tricks.

My Dad introduced me to the Smothers Brothers, Brother Dave Gardner, and Jonathan Winters on 33LPs. Such classics. A toast and thoughts for his family tonight.

The first concert I attended at the U. of Md. my freshmen year in the fall of '64 was The Smothers Brothers. I absolutely LOVED their off center creative humor along with great renditions of fun and sometimes beautiful folk songs . This video with Esther Ofarim is from their TV show. I recently came across it and slowly remembered just how much I liked it.

Was reading his obituary and found out his father was an Army major and died in Japanese captivity.
