CMP is selling Tisas 1911s

The actual Tisas model the CMP is marketing is the Tisas model 1911A1 ASF .45 ACP. It is probably the closest clone ever made to an original USGI 1911A1.

I doubt the Tisas clone will impact the sales of the USGI surplus parts guns, but for a shooter, the Tisas is the better bang for the buck.

Face it, regardless if anyone on this thread likes it or not, the CMP is doing it.

I don't know how to say it technically but the short version is CMP sucks.
Just another government agency that is off the rails and no full filling their basic mission. Nothing like the old DCM.

OK. I get it, I think. I'll buy one of those Tisas 1911s and write it off as a charitable contribution.

Kidding of course, but I must confess I own one of the Turk High Power clones. It's put away, NIB.

This one is one of the "blems" they
sold couple years ago....$318 delivered IIRC.
Anyway, they seem to be a hit.

This one lives in my cabin at the deer lease.
We have a nice gun range there.
Hard to believe how many guys between 30-40 years
of age have never fired a 1911.

No clue how many round theses pups have put through
this one with nary a hiccup

The CMP put obsolete US government-purchased firearms in the hands of Americans, keeping them from being scrapped. To my thinking, that's a real positive. I'm sure I could nit-pick the way it was done, but it was indeed done.

If someone wants to buy a Tisas 1911 clone, what do I care who they buy it from?

But, are they any good? I ask because 40 years ago I bought what I thought a "GOOD" deal, a Auto Ordinance 1911. A money pit which never fed non ejected properly. Was very difficult to reliably strike the ground, even, with every shot.

The Tisas 1911s appear to be good to go - everything I've heard about them has characterized them as an excellent value for the money.

Have never heard anything bad about them. A friend is a Colt M1911 collector/dealer and he carries a Tisas and likes & trusts it!

Yeah, from the DCM you could purchase one M1 rifle per lifetime, bring back the good ole days.

Short version is, we all have our opinions and I don't think they suck.

I like the CMP. Over the years I've bought a Garand, a carbine and two 1911s from them. Even made the trip to Anniston once.
They have my full support. :D

However, I have to question this move. Why should I take the time to fill out all the paperwork, mail it in and wait weeks until they ship me the gun when I can walk into my LGS, pay cash, do the NICS and walk out with pretty much the same gun in a matter of minutes?
Makes no sense to me.

I posted on the CMP forum about wanting to handle / fondle one in person before a decision, to include purchasing at the South Store or Talladega Marksmanship Park (TMP). A CMP Admin answered my post and said they would have a demo model at the TMP for the D-Day matches this weekend, but all purchases were to be mail order to a FFL for pickup - No personal pickup, like M1s, etc. Hmm.

Then find one at a dealer near you and fondle it. If CMP is cheaper then order from them. If the dealer is cheaper then buy from them. Easy enough.

I do believe that all commercial (read new gun) sales from CMP must be shipped to a FFL. The surplus sales are all that can be shipped directly to the individual.

When I got my CMP 1911A1 I also bought a pistol belt, holster, Magazine pouch and first aid kit to replicate what I might have used way back then.

When I got the pistol belt it was about half as long as it needed to be. I thought I might have bought a kid's toy rather than the real thing. I measured the belt and it would have fit me perfectly back in 1958 or so.
