As a 10mm and revolver fan, the 610 is a perfect marriage. I also like being able to shoot 40 S&W.

5” 610
6.5” 610-1

I have a 610-3 and like it very much. Had my gunsmith lighten the trigger pull. I have shot .40 Cal through it enough to know it will hit a 4 inch bullseye offhand at 15 yards no problem. I much prefer to shoot 10MM as I also have a Ruger SR1911 10MM.

My 1988 610 will eat anything I stuff with it equally well though I'd rather use 10's for the ease of clean up.

I have several 610s along with a 310.

All four of my revolvers have had their chambers lengthened so that in addition to being able to safely chamber and fire the 40S&W cartridge and the 10MM Auto cartridge, they can additionally utilize the 10MM Magnum cartridge

Truthfully, I like my 6 1/2" 610 the best for most things besides daily carry. In the carry role, it is hard to beat the 2 1/2" Model 310 Night Guard

I've shot my original 610 5" a lot with 40 S&W target loads with cast bullets, shoots quite well at 25 yards.

How much are 610's going for these days?

I've been looking at the 610's too. I heard they are some of the most accurate revolvers made by S&W.

I had a no-dash 5 inch 610 I bought to shoot up some 10mm ammo in the early 80s. I didn't shoot much 40 through it since I don't like dealing with moon clips but when I did it shot them accurately.

But if I could go back in time I would tell my younger self to just sell the 10mm ammo and buy a 44 or 357 magnum revolver. When I finally did buy a S&W 69 in 44 I found it did everything I wanted a revolver to do better than the 610. It's almost like the 44 and 357 were designed to be fired in revolvers:)

I have both the 3” Lew Horton version as well as the 5” model. Both are excellent shooting firearms. The 3” is downright sexy and isn’t half bad for a carry piece. The 5” is a great range gun. Both of them are quite accurate and handle .40 S&W just fine.

If I could only have one I’d probably choose the 5” but it would be a struggle as I really like the 3”.

Since the 629, 329, and 627 won't chamber 40 caliber rounds I think the 610 is the better choice.....:D

The 3" is a great gun

However, I stopped carrying my 3" when the 2 1/2" 310 Night Guards came out

The more than 10 ounce weight difference is a pretty big deal for carrying all day

Wonderful pieces. Have 610 Classic 6.5", somewhat of a cornerstone of any respectable 10mm nut's collection. I covent a 310 in the worst of ways... My only Night Guard is a 386 and while it is great in its own right, the 10mm nut in me feels empty with the 310 in the vault...

They all shoot .40S&W just fine BTW.

The other 10mm revolver here is a Ruger Bisley Blackhawk Buckeye 10mm/.38-40 combo. Single action fun. If folks think 10mm is expensive, try to find some .38-40!
