Oh, and let's add the heat sink effect of unbridled development over the last 25 years, covering the desert with asphalt and concrete.

Yesterday's high, 112°F.

Yesterday's LOW, 91°F.

Some cloud moved in about midnight so...

Today's LOW, 93°F.:eek::eek: (Taken from the 5 minute data at the airport.)

Humidity is up a touch today, so that might cap the high temperature somewhat, or maybe we will get some thunderstorms off the mountains. We will see.

Last check at 1056 PDT, 106°F.

11:07 AM and it's 68 heading to 88. Sunny skies and the birds are singing. Sorry about your luck.
Similar up here. 71º at present (11:25am). But overall kinda icky for this time of year. At least the fire crews will be happy, as well as the plants. Eventually we will get real summer.

If it eventually gets "hot" (by our standards, ie mid 90's and over), my earth tube cooling system should keep things tolerable. Last 2 summers we've had brief peaks to 100º, which is uncomfortable for us pale-whitey people. But a few weeks ago I was talking to a young woman born in India and she said 100º was barely even warm, havng grown up with regular 125º+ temps.

It was in the 90's and muggy last week, but today is lovely and the rest of the week looks great!

125º ???
I take my steak off the grill and let it rest when it reaches that temperature! ;)

Here in Vegas I was working with a girl from Yuma for a while. At any temperature under about 104°F she was wearing a woolly sweater with sleeves.

All I know is that the last couple of weeks, during which either one or both of my air conditioning units was out at any given time, were not fun. I bit the bullet and had both units (including the ground units as well as the attic coils, thermostats, etc.) replaced yesterday with upgraded, quality units. If anybody wants to help me pay for it all, I have a kidney for sale on the black market.

But it's a dry heat. :p I remember strolling around sunny San Antonio for miles in July and August wearing long sleeve, dark green fatigues in 1970.

There would be a salt ring of evaporated sweat around my mouth and armpits.

Many people in NW Iowa would take 10 degrees of heat and give you 10 inches of rain. Area has received 15-25 inches of rain. Record high river levels and much flooding This is my post on another forum yesterday:

My heart is hurting for my hometown(20 miles away) and many others in NW Iowa. Natural gas is shut off to the entire town, sewer treatment plant shut down, land line phone service out, cell phone service is spotty, electric power is in and out, 2 US highways in and out of town are closed. 400+ people have been evacuated by boat, cars submerged to the roof, local radio station and weather service has been off the air at various times due to flooding in their transmitter building. Grocery stores flooded and closed. Same with gas stations.

It was hot and humid here yesterday 97/109 to add to the misery. But neighboring towns are donating and helping in great numbers. And this isn't the only town in the same situation.
Basically the destruction is like a hurricane without the high winds, even starting to see looting.

Our high temp today is supposed to hit 66 degrees but with the wind it will feel a little cooler. Over the course of the next 14 days our high is supposed to hit 69 degrees with nighttime lows in the low to mid 50's with a couple of high 40's. Not my favorite riding weather but it sure is easy to sleep at night.

Thanks Rusty.
For everyone else, understand "its Hotter than a $2.00 working girl" right now.
LOL. But your thermometer is in the sun! That's cheating. You trying to get sympathy or what?

It's only 81º here right now - in the shade on the N. side of the house, but in the sun it's 99º.

Sir Noel Coward sang, "Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun."
I'm part English, don't have a dog and I'm staying inside where it's 73º :)

Sir if you had looked closely, you would have noticed that thermometer is mounted to a 4X4 post and turned away from direct sun light Now I will admit that my front porch is a "heat Trap" as it is covered enclosed on three sides, and has an Easterly exposer (sp)
I don't want your sympathy, thanks for the offer. Save it for someone who may want it.

Have a good day and a good life.

Very hot and humid here and burn up being out on concrete and asphalt. Worked late yesterday and afternoon sun and heat beat me down , boss let me come home early today. Be careful around trucks and trailers worn and underinflated tires will explode from excessive heat

I feel your pain. Topped out at a blistering 73 degrees today as I was hauling stumps to the burn pile. Almost unbearable. ;) ... Almost.

Edit: I really do feel for those in the path. Be safe, drink, drink water and stay out of the sun. Help those who can't. May this pass soon.
