Anyone else like short barrel lever actions?

Am short (5'8") and like short barrels and prefer short stocks. 357, 44 mags, 45 LC, 30-30. have the 18 in versions of Marlin's 45-70 and 444 Marlin.

Seems a lot easier to be able to work a lever while keeping the sights on target, and keeping cob closer to body,

Really love lever action carbines.

I only have one lever action, a 20" Henry Big Boy in .45 Colt. I'd like to have a nice rifle caliber lever gun, I'd probably go for a traditional 45-70 if I got one. The Henry is a lot of fun to shoot.

I have had a Marlin stainless .357 on order since about the time they went under. I am waiting for the new version, due out this year. With a red dot, sling and light, similar to my ARs, it will be my travel long gun as it is far less likely to draw stupid political attention if seen. Likewise a double barreled 12 gauge.

Not a lever action, but a slide action. It is a Pedersoli Colt Model 1877 in .45 Colt. Shoots well.

Did it work correctly new? The reason I ask is that I have heard they needed work in order to function as they are supposed to. I have looked at buying one, but have held off for that reason.

I’m a lever fan but they’re not as high on my priority list as some. I mean I love old Winchester and marlins but they’re so many ways to go.
Of some of the old Winchesters I’ve had, currently only one, a post-‘64 M 94 in .30-30 I bought off a co-worker 30 years ago in need of a little quick cash. $100 I gave him for it that retailed for $70 in 1970. It and a Uberti Cimarron’73 clone in .357 my gdaughter used in CAS are about it for me now. The little browning short-throw .22 LR lever and Win. .22 mag were enjoyable to me.
If/when I win the lottery, got my eye on a Big Horn Armory M-89 in .500 S&W.

I picked mine up used at an auction. It works as advertised. I picked up a manual from the guys at SASS on how to work on it if needed.

I have a 20" and a 16" Rossi 92 in 357. The 16" has a lot more fun factor.
16 1/4" may also be my favorite Contender barrel length. I have a few that need a longer bbl, like 223 and 7/30 but the hornets and pistol cartridges shine with that length.

One of my truck guns is a Winchester 94AE Trapper .30-30 (16” bbl w/ crossbolt safety), one handy little carbine.

I love lever actions and have 3 that are 16” +

This is a Rossi R-95 trapper .30-30 that I gave the full Ranger Point Precision treatment just to make heads explode over on the MarlinOwners forum

Then there’s this Miroku-made Winchester 1892 Trapper in .45 Colt

I found a new Marlin 1894 Trapper (laminate stock, 16” barrel, stainless .44 Magnum) a week ago and actually managed to walk out of Cabelas without it. I have a feeling I’m going to regret that…

Marlin Mounties are my favorite leverguns, but I like 16” centerfire leverguns. I’ve got stainless Rossi 92’s in 357, 44, and 454. I’ve got a 45-70 Marlin Trapper and a cut-down 30-30 336. I have others with barrels from 18.5 to 24 inches. I like leverguns

I don’t like lever guns in 30-30 or .38-55 with barrels shorter than 20”. I have a few rifle pattern Model 94s with 26” barrels and they deliver an honest 2400 fps compared to the 2260 fps you get in a 20” short rifle or carbine.

I also have a couple 24” rifles with lighter weight barrels in .38-55 and they are the sweet spot with superb balance and much lighter weight than the heavier profile barrels.

They are equivalent to the 20” Trails end take down Model 94 rifle I have in .38-55 in terms of weight and balance but with more ballistic efficiency.

However in .22 LR short barrels are just fine. 9422 Trapper.
