Not in any way knowledgeable on the topic, but from what I have read, the present “lab-grown” stones are fully the equal of mined stones. And if anything they are too perfect, but sell at around 1/3d the price per unit weight. Depends on the attitude of the intended recipient. My wife wouldn’t care what the stone was as she rarely wears her engagement ring anyway. Her original engagement ring was stolen in a home burglary. Replaced it somewhat later with a used Diamond from a local pawnshop that was both larger and higher grade than the original. And it cost much less than the original as it had some invisible chipping damage to a few facets. And she still rarely wears it, mainly it resides in her jewelry chest. The Diamond trade is based on myth and female psychology. Personally, I hate rings of any kind and have never owned a single one. It never bothered my wife that I didn’t want a wedding ring. I made that clear up front.
