I found a pretty active yellowjacket nest in my yard. I tried the soapy boiling water trick but that didn't get them. An online search says step 1 "locate the nest" step 2 "call a professional". Any better suggestions?

I would use a spray designed to kill wasps, and deploy it into the entrance hole after dark....then quickly block the entrance with a brick or stone.

They will be less active on a cool night.

Keep in mind too that they will have sentrys posted near the entrance, even at night.....and....there may be an alternate entrance nearby.

Mark the hole, tonight after dark pour a half water bottle of gas down hole. Use a whole bottle if you want, should do the job. I usually walk up and stick bottle (upside down) in the hole and step back.

This is what I use...doesn't take much. If you have a shovel, you can also dig them out after dark, it will be a paper nest not very deep.

Just remember:
stop at the pour. DO NOT LIGHT THE GAS like this fool!!

Had a big one in the yard where I used to live. Had two holes with the yellowjackets coming and going from one hole. Right before dark I covered the inactive hole with a rock and poured a mix of about a half gallon of gas and used motor oil in the other hole, lit it with a match and ran for the door. It burned more slowly than gas alone. Next day there were burned bees all around the hole. One time did the trick. No more yellowjackets.

Do you have access to any explosives? That is where I would start. On the other hand, if my wife is around I would definitely start with a water bottle.

Had one in my yard.
Was able to drive up to in the car.
Ran the window down and hosed it with long range wasp spray.
Immediately ran the window back up.
Survived the experience.

We had a terrible gopher problem and I tried every type of poison, trap, and even ran a hose from my truck exhaust pipe into the hole and nothing helped. I remembered the Nazis used chlorine gas during the holocaust genocide so I put a chlorine tablet from my swimming pool in the hole then held my nose and poured a cup of muratic acid in the hole and took off running! When I got about 25 yards away I stopped and took a breath and all of a sudden it felt like my lungs were on fire! I'm sure it would kill wasps or about anything else but it is VERY dangerous.
