Am I the only guy here who wants things. Can definitely afford said things. But won't spend the money. Whenever I buy something I always seem to buy the least expensive thing that I can get by with. Example, I've want to move up to the next size models Kubota for about 8 yrs. I can afford it. I can certainly justify it. But then I think. Meh, mine does what I need it to do. It does not excel at anything but it does all the jobs I ask of it. My wife and I want to purchase a boat for our place in Naples. She wants at least a 24' to go "way out" in the Gulf on nice days. I'm thinking an 18' Robalo center console would suffice. Most of our activities will be in the back waters of the Ten Thousand Islands. I've wanted a 68 or 69 Corvette forever. She tells me, "just buy one already". But I know I never will……….. you can think Hemi for this post. He has some fine looking custom shoes that I'd love to have. But I'd never spend the money.

The 2008-2012 Maserati Quattroporte S or any of the 4.7 litre Maserati Gran Tourismos without the stupid huge wheels. All examples with black rims are automatically excluded. Both cars have interiors to die for and are available at remarkably affordable prices, but you have to have some nerve to buy one.

Failing either of those, I'd roll the dice on a 2016 or later Jag XK or XJ. They had sorted the water pumps by then...finally.

When we were fishing off shore (tuna mostly) we would go out 60 miles,,,good weather mostly at night you could see ant weather coming..25 ft Sportsfisherman. but it really wasn't enough I fished the Chesapeake in a 23 ft CC but most of my party fishing was no more than 2 people on a 18 foot flats type boat. I even pushed that out 5 miles off shore..when the blues were running. I don't know how the gulf is but if you're gonna be mostly fishing the flats 18 is enough..shallow water. Now if you really want a vette..get a 66 or 67 convertible. My Coupe(63) was too hot but the 66 conv. was great. Do it...you won't regret it...Now...you don't need another tractor for WORK?? buy the vette...forget the tractor. Hell hire the grass cutting out...save gas for the vette! and the boat

I am in much the same situation. I certainly do not need to be a tightwad, but it is just part of my genetic makeup. My father was the same way. His credo was always "If you can't pay cash and get it cheap, you don't need it." And that was how I was raised.

It's just green paper……made for the sole purpose of being a media of exchange. Life is an adventure that should be enjoyed. If stacking up green paper provides enjoyment, that's great. If buying another S&W revolver, tractor, corvette, etc., makes you happy, that's great too. I'm not advocating being financially irresponsible, I'm just saying that life is short and regrets should be avoided.

Same here. I've done without, saved and invested to get where I am so what's the point if not to enjoy it? Plus a lot I spend on adds value, maybe not all that I spend on stuff but a substantial percentage. For instance I'm building an out building on my property. The $50K I spend isn't squandered, I get to enjoy it plus it'll add about that in value to the property or my estate.

When it comes to vehicles, boats, and motorcycles I'm a little more restrained because they generally depreciate a good bit.

Knowing the difference between needs and wants is not a bad thing. Your solid financial position is probably a byproduct of a lifetime of abiding by the delayed gratification principle.

My recently departed dad mentioned to me that money can't buy more time on this earth, so don't wait too long if these things will truly increase your happiness while here.

On the other hand, maybe the gratification comes from knowing you can.

I am more in your camp Ridewv - put money in appreciating assets not depreciating assets. I have seen many high earners end up without the financial freedom they should have enjoyed at the end of their careers because they lived right at the edge of their earnings. If you make a bundle but spend a bundle and a half you have a nice lifestyle, but you aren't rich. From what I understand more teachers have 1MM in their 401k's than other highly compensated professionals. So, it isn't all about what you make.

I'm the same as far as not being able to make myself buy something I want. I got rid of my boat many years ago. I have wanted another for some years now. I even put aside money for the purpose of buying a boat (cash only - no financing). I've looked at boats, even decided on the one I wanted. Still can't seem to pull the trigger.

There are a couple of guns I want that are pretty expensive (well, not compared to a boat). I could pay cash for them and never really miss it, but so far I haven't. I keep telling myself I really don't NEED them, and that's true.
