S&W seems to consistently miss the point when it comes to their Classic series IMO. Nobody was calling for the reintroduction of the screw at the top of the sideplate, and they ignore what enthusiasts have been asking for the removal of for over two decades...

Nice to see it back, and I love that half moon front sight and slim barrel profile, but I'd have preferred a 4" or 5" barrel.

I saw this announcement over the summer as well. And yes, S&W doesn't really get it. Premium wood grips? C'mon, they're Altamont "super rosewood" laminate aka plywood. Shorter barrel for sure. If S&W is serious, they'll ditch the IL for niche guns like this, then sit back and marvel at the demand.

I didn't even realize they tried to bill thin Altamont laminates as "premium." That's somehow even worse than the rest of my gripes.

It’s less the material and more the fitment that nags at me.

Well, they made some in 4" when they came out with the Texas Ranger commemorative, that were plain. I think the magna Altamonts look better than the latest targets that are on the adjustable sighted N-frames. I'd like to see a 3.5". I didn't say I'd buy one, but I'd like to see it made.

Why would you buy that, nostalgia? If that is the case, buy an old one that is full of nostalgia and history. I would sooner put 300 with that and have a nice hand fitted Dan Wesson 1911. I know, altogether different gun, but a better way to spend 1550 on a new gun IMHO

I have a pre-war HD, Transitional HD, and ~1956 HD. Each was purchased for less than the current street price of this hillary-holed, plywood stocked... um, revolver.

As stated above, it's hard to imagine what S&W was thinking here... there are plenty of niche guns that would have sold far better than this will, especially when real H-Ds aren't really that hard to come by, and shooter grade guns are cheaper than the repro...

I'll stick with my originals.
