My LGS has a 5" Model 27, serial S 270XXX, non-matching Magnas with a chip in one side at the butt. Actually I didn't check for a serial number but they didn't look right to me. There is some sparse light freckling on the right side of the frame only. It's there but it's minor and I didn't even notice it until the second look.

How much of a premium is the 5" worth? I figure that must be one of the later S#s. Like mid 60's?

He's only got it marked at $719. Seems like a steal these days. Value estimate?

Thanks

On the other hand, a chipped grip and light freckling suggests it hasn't had the best of care----somewhere along the line. I wonder what other seemingly minor problems lurk elsewhere?

I know---I'm a nit picker. It has served me well!

I was at a shop yesterday that had a 3.5" 27-2. I'd really like to have one, it was in good shape, looking at the recoil shield it didn't look like it had been shot much at all. Incorrect grips, no box, and some holster wear on the end of the barrel. They were asking $1600 which I thought was pretty high. Needless to say it's still there. So at $719 I'd be all over the one you found!

I don’t know if I could keep my wits about me enough around any 5 inch N frame to nitpick.
$719 is pretty decent unless it’s a real dog of a gun.

I saw a 5 inch 3rd model 44 HE advertised for $750 before tax but it was definitely a dog on the outside. Advertised as clean on inside. Still makes me pause though as they don’t come around often at all.

Ihave a 27-2 5 inch that is pretty nice..but found one in an online auction back east with a bit of corrosion and no stocks. I won the auction cause I wanted just a shooter.n I had an old set of magnas I put on. It needs the plastic in the red ramp replaced. Cleaned up the corrosion and touched up the blue. I can shoot that gun without worrying about wearing the other. . I'm going to replace the plastic in the front sight cause I have one of those Brownell? kits I got at a garage sale. Buy that 27. no matter about that price...it is truly 1/2 price for a gun you can shoot with no worries. The one I got is smoother feeling than my 3 1/2 inch 27 and as accurate as I can shoot...Think I'm going to sell that nice 27...I've got a shooter. You will too.

Do you see the consistent responses? At that price, if it is in anything like decent shape otherwise, that's a steal. It is not a collector item, but you can swap the grips, and carry and shoot the daylights out of that with no loss in value. I would. If I were not trying to free up all my resources for a non-gun project, I'd be on that like a shark on garbage.
