"On second look" means I didn't notice it immediately when I looked at that side. I flipped it over and looked at the left side, then flipped it back to the right side and took a slow look and saw the freckling pretty quick.
Everything seemed smooth with it and I've handled a lot of S&W revolvers. I have two issues.
1. I'm not a collector. I'm a shooter, and I have a lot of .38/.357 revolvers. There's only so many that one can shoot. I really like the ones I have and I'm just not sure I have room in the range rotation for another. Deal of the Century or not. I'm retired on a fixed income and spend thousands of dollars a year on my hobby already, just shooting. Not that I can't afford it, just not sure I should. Sometimes you have to be an adult, no matter how painful.
2. I've known the owner of the shop for over 20 years, from long before he ever even had a gun store. We have a history. When he first pulled it out I said "Oh, it's a six inch" he said "No, it's a four inch". I looked at it knew it wasn't a four inch, and realized it was a 5" and went "Oh hell it's a five inch". He pulled out a tape measure. "Damn, you're right". So he knows now. He didn't even know they made 5" barrels. He's a 1911 guy at heart and revolvers? Not his thing. I did tip him off that it was a stupid price. But he's a friend which I value much more than a good deal.
I'm going to have to let it sit and I'll be back there in a couple of weeks and see if he's re-priced it. If he hasn't I'll tip you guys off to it's whereabouts. He's an FFL so there's no reason he can't ship it. He's also a Texas Certified Peace Officer although he's only ever worked as a reserve sheriff deputy. Totally trustworthy and I'd trust him with my life. Like I said, we have a history.
