We have hummers here 365 days of the year. The hardy Anna's Hummingbird is most common, but I've see Black Chinned here in past winters, too. I have at least three around my yard right now. This is the best picture I've managed recently.

Steve, do you have hummingbird hawk-moths in LV, those insects, moths, that look and act like hummingbirds? We came across one in a park over here in Japan a couple of weeks ago, and my brother has come across them in Santa Fe. Tried to get a pic with my iPhone but it was impossible.

We have the White Lined Sphinx moth here.

We have the very large "Pink" Moths, up at our Tahoe cabin in the summer months,
that are just fantastic in colorings and markings.

One of the many things I hope to see each year.

That's really a great picture. Never saw that type of humming bird before. It seems all we get here that I've seen are the Ruby Throated or the one I can't remember the name but they are mostly green. We get a couple here in Pittsburgh not as many since the stink bugs killed the flowers and blossoms a few years ago. The feeder attracts them and the Orioles every spring/summer. Nice picture.

I always have six or eight around my feeders during the summer. In early October about 50 of them showed up headed south. I had to refill the feeders several times a day while they were here. By mid October they were all gone. I'm going to put out extra feeders this Spring.
