Pre 29 Black box

A few years ago I was fortunate to find this five screw .44 Magnum, here in the Forum Classified Section, which Roy says shipped in January of 1957.
These revolvers are amongst the most beautiful pieces ever produced by Smith & Wesson.

Great package! I can't remember, has your presentation case been reconditioned or is it original? It looks in great shape.

Trade

Several have asked what I traded. It'll make you sick when I tell you. Well I traded a Radical arms AR15. Didn't have much in it. The person I traded with had a massive collection of revolvers from a relative that passed and didn't know much about them. Honestly I didn't either. But I'm starting to think I did pretty well in the trade.

Welcome to the forum. Now ruin our day by telling us you traded a Taurus Judge for it. LOL

Welcome
Not sure what you traded but guessing you did very well.
That black box is pricey and it still has its original grips...pricey as well

Everything from what I'm told is original. The guy I got it from got his collection from a relative that passed away and he had about 20 revolvers that's been in his safe for over 30 years now.

He also had the entire collection of 629 no dash pinned and recessed. 4", 6", and 8" stainless all in the original boxes. I originally was going to trade for a his 6" 629 no dash but when I saw this one I fell in love.

Hi Larry, and thanks.
I'm certainly not an expert on these things, but from what I can see, it's original. No signs of being "new" to me, just well preserved.

People search fore ever to find a deal on a pre 29 then someone stumbles across like this by accident. LOL I shop them quite often, and a 4 screw with black case is just north of 4K all day long. If mint. Condition is everything.

Uhhhh, yeah...you did great! Trading a $1K AR-15 for a $3K-$4K 4-screw .44 Magnum with original box. I'd say that's an outstanding deal. You may want to grab your Rosary beads and say a few Hail Marys just in case! Actually, if you are both happy with the deal then good for you!

Actually $400 AR lol. But yes when I figured out how much they are going for I called him and offered to return it. He said since I called him I shouldn't feel like I cheated him. He said he got what he wanted and I got what I I wanted and he'd rather someone who appreciated it have it rather than it sitting in his safe collecting dust.

10-to-1 is a pretty decent investment :)
