You would have to look at the few that weren't at the top of the charts.

I kind of liked the Jackson 5.
MJ solo, no thanks, and that's even before the kiddie stuff came to light.
The 80's had some great music. But MJ was WAY overrated.

An artist doesn't have to play an instrument to be labeled as a musician as their understanding of theory, arranging and the skill of "playing" their vocal cords certainly qualifies them.
MJ belongs in the conversation every bit as much as Prince if not more.

Not to belittle Prince or Jimi, 2 of the all time greats and amazing guitarists, but MJ had 15 #1 songs. Prince had 5. Jimi had none. Prince and Jimi were more willing to experiment beyond their "usual" genre, but MJ stayed in his groove. That's why he's called the King of Pop. It seems to have worked. He may not have played an instrument, but he was the full package. Singer, dancer and entertainer. Think of what he could have done if he hadn't been insane.

MJ had some talent but around that time the Country Outlaw crew came and Waylon, Tompaul, Willie, D A Coe, and even the still-alive remaining Crickets were a refreshing break from the MTV regulars. Except Debbie Harry; at the time Clem Burke and the rest of Blondie were and still are on recordings that I place high on my popular list at that point of my life. She was a great singer and even better looking than most of the rest at the time. And Clem was probably the best drummer they could have and was a beast on the drums.
None were as talented as Buddy Holly…….

Who was Michael Jackson?. Never heard of him until he died.
He was kind of a freaky guy but his talent was amazing from the time he was child. I would take his music any day over the "Rap ****" that's so popular now.

Well sir...there are two pop songs that I will admit to liking that most people my age, etc. don't, my son caught me enjoying ABBA's "Dancing Queen" in the workshop one day and has never let me off the hook. The other is MJ's "Billie Jean", I'll just admit it because of the thread posting. I also think the "Thriller" Video was genius for its era. Weird little bugger to say the least, but talented.
In the first post you mentioned the Worst and I was gonna say, that's a Rolling Stones song. LOL. I'm a big music fan and my appreciation is pretty wide. From country to rock to blues, blue grass and on and on. I don't do Opera and don't like rap. Wife and I were teen agers in late 50's and early 60's. She pretty much prefers just rock music from that era, probably her favorites would be Elvis Presley and she really likes Charley Pride. I watch music videos on my laptop and have to have music playing when I go to bed, that doesn't bother her because we sleep in separate bedrooms, that way she doesn't hear my music or my snoring. Lol
