28-2 sells for $3300?

I was watching this one as well.
As others have said it had been shot. Plenty of ques as to wear on this one. I'm guessing he had a ringer biding and caught a whale then only for the whale to stop biding. I think this was on GI awhile back... his ringer ended up with the gun and he now is reporting it as a nonpayer so he doesn't pay fees and will relist it in another few months. I will be watching. I have been seeing tools in the plastic that are incorrectly packed and resealed with one of those food sealers .... can we ever catch a break with the everlasting fraud that goes on? I'm by no means an expert and that's why I joined SW Forum. Just tired of the bs from unscrupulous dealers. Sour thoughts

I recently picked up a 28 no dash for $1000. The smith and Wesson 5th edition lists the 28 no dash of bringing a 30% premium over a 28-2. Mine didn’t come with a box but the conditions are very close to each other. Mine barley has a turn line but has some very light holster rubbing.

I am wealth beyond my wildest dreams. Keep bidding the price of these older S&W on beyond what folks think are their real value. I do not own any of these painting that folks call "high dollar art", but I have a few of the older S&W revolvers around. Keep on "upping the price", as it warms my heart to read about such wild prices.

It might be over exposed pics, but that one sure looks like it's polished like a 27. My 2 pre-28's are much more matte finish. Still crazy money for what was sold as the working officer's affordable piece.

All it takes is two bidders, both determined not to lose, maybe both a bit drunk. Wonder if buyer's remorse sets in and the gun gets relisted in the future.

To the OP's question, NO, nothing special. Unfired outside the factory? NO. Nice 28-2 with box etc.? Yes. Worth the hammer price plus all the fees? Someone thought so, but I don't. Oh, but it's P&R. Duh, it's from 1964.

The Greater Fool theory strikes again. Now, have I every paid a few hundred over value for a gun I really wanted? Yes. BTW, I have a really nice 1964 (IAW Roy) 28-2 for sale at $1100, AND it has an S prefix. Double Duh!

There is a factor in the final observed price that is beyond condition, plain to see. All we can do is speculate, maybe a special year that has nostalgic value to two/three people? We will really never know.
I don’t judge how people move their own money that they earned the right use however they see fit, to each their own is real in my book.
At the end of the day some things are worth having in hand more than money in a bank.

I just thought of something. It's possible that a shill bidder, or two, drove that price up and ended up winning it. Shill bidder pays and has his money returned by the seller. Maybe they didn't catch the big fish they were after, after all.

I've purchased two firearms on GB. The one I posted above was from GB. No bidders and I only bid one time. That's my rule for bidding on GB. One and done.

Wait,
It came with a "Time Capsule"....?
Darn it I needed one of those things!
Somebody put a high value on the box and diamond magnas.
If it was factory nickel or a 5" or a 28-1, mmmmaybe?
Sometimes there is stubbornness or alcohol involved and sometimes regret and non paying or shill bidders but this one will skew the sales chart trackers...if it's legit.
Who knows.

I was surprised that the second place bidder, TexasPasha, did not win the bid. Last month he won a Registered Magnum for just north of $14k. And his list of purchases from high end dealers just goes on and on. Wish my pockets were half as deep.

Edit: Guess I didn't have too much to do, so out of curiosity, I went and checked the guns bought on GB by the above mentioned person JUST for the month of February. He purchased 31 guns for a total of $155,383. He has a total of 748 items purchased from GB. The ones in February ranged from $1175 to $22,203. Would love to see his/her collection.

I'll sell you a 4" AND a 6" for that, and I'll even throw in a spare parts kit:
