Birth Year Guns

I've got 3, and none of them were on purpose.

a 4" Model 10, a 2" Model 10 and a Model 36.

I didn't know when the were made until after I bought them.

Anyone on here have one?

I'm seriously considering getting a snubby born in the same year as me ('68) but am wondering if it's "worth it". I guess I think it would be neat to have a piece of history for personal and sentimental reasons.

If I do it, a Mod. 49 would be top choice. A 36 might come a close second. But we'll see. It seems as though that year is pretty difficult to confirm.

Since you asked.

Birth Day
Birth Month
Birth Year.

Yep, shipped the same day I did.

Who'dathunkit...

enjoy,

I have one, a 45 ACP, Model 1950 Target Revolver shipped in 1955. It is a filler piece until I find the birth year revolver of my dreams. That is a 45 ACP, Model 1955, preferably from March, but I will not hold my breath nor push my luck.

Didn't plan to, but it did motivate me more, seeing my birth year on the SWHF letter. 25-2 by Jovino

War Baby- no S&W luck

Born January 27, 1945........didn't join S&W Forum until 2016, and even then after many years "lurking" so never really gave a thought to a "birth year" gun.

If I was to look for a birth year gun, I now realize I already had it in my possession many years ago....and let it go!

I was a mil-surp collector, still have the all correct Ithaca 1911 A1, but it is a late 1943 per all research back in the day. Let go of the Remington Rand 1911 A1 and it was all correct (including GS lip marked mag) late 1943 also.

The Colt 1911 A1 was....wait for it....April 1945! and I let it go for a measly $2,600 just because I had got bit by the Python bug and knew one was coming up at an estate auction and we all know: cash is king at these things.

Got my Python, loved it for some years, then came Messr's Smith and Wesson...and everything went up for sale as I started down this slippery slope with you enablers!:D

No need to chase birth year anymore...been there, done that, do NOT have the T-shirt (used it up cleaning S&W wheelguns).

I have a 10-6 as a birth year gun. Shipped when I was 8 months old. I'm glad to have it. I was telling a guy at work who has a few guns about my birth year gun and he looked at me like I was crazy. I think you gotta be a REAL enthusiast to care about a birth year gun.

This "birth year" Smith & Wesson is quite special to me. Not only is it one made in my birth year (1939) but it's a dead ringer for the first Smith I ever saw, which was carried by a bank guard in the bank where my father worked. I was just a young boy then, but seeing that I was interested in it, he showed it to me (with my mother's permission). I remember it vividly and this gun matches it faithfully in configuration, barrel length and finish. Interestingly, this one was shipped just a couple of days before WWII began - among the very last of the "pre-war" revolvers.
