M&P 5.7 Barrel Mod

Look Close

I'd like to see that. I was not aware that any of the S&W M&P5.7's were available without a threaded barrel.

You have to look really close at the CA compliant barrel. The pictures make it hard to tell. Instead of a thread protector, the tip of the barrel protrudes the same length BUT it looks kind of like a crown on the outside. I was VERY disappointed bc I have a DA Mask I was ready to utilize!

I don't see the 5.7 listed on the CA roster.

@jonnymath.. What's the SKU?

S&W lists the CO compliant as 10 rounds, with thumb safety and threaded barrel. SKU 14093

You are correct that the "Compliant" SKU is 14093 . I think I was mistaken to call it "CA Compliant." I apologize. However, when you are looking at SKU 14093 , when you look at the technical specs where it lists "Threaded Barrel" it states: "NO"

I can confirm that the "Compliant" models with the 10 round magazines DO NOT have a threaded barrel.

Much to my dismay :(

No worries about "CA" compliance.

You are right. The details on the specs for that specific SKU says "No". Funny the pics shows the TB but that's likely a "stock" photo.

Tricky though

I agree with you but it's kinda tricky though. If you're looking specifically at SKU 14093 (follow below link)

Once you see it in comparison to the non "Compliant" models, you can tell from the picture that the barrel is not threaded. The thread protector on the threaded barrel have grooves that stay the same the entire length of the thread protector. Whereas that part of the barrel on the "Compliant" version, the grooves change from the edge of the barrel in.

It is TRICKY for sure! :/ I wish I could just buy an aftermarket threaded barrel (or even threaded barrel shroud -- which is truly what comes on the non-compliant models).

Thanks for pointing this out! Boy, that's funky looking.

Although I removed the threaded portion from mine, I'd rather have the threads than that.

Yes. Exactly. It was my fault for not looking closer before I purchased. However, with the possible new gun laws here in CO , it could become a firearm that I wouldn’t be able to buy next year. It’s all so disheartening.

Do the 5.7 folks here also own carbines in the same cartridge ? The fact that thre 5.7 needs a longer pistol barrel was a turn off for carry to me and the grip difference does not feel like a typical full size m&p pistol ether .

Some months back I bought a couple boxes of underwood 9mm+p 68gr extreme defender ammo to test in a apex barreled m&p9 we have and in a 10.5" AR9. Velocity of the m&p 4.25" pistol with a apex gs fit barrelis 1821fps average velocity and the recoil snap of this light bullet is so very flat shooting , from the 10.5" AR9 its 2131fps average . Accuracy seems to be rather good but I still carry underwoods old 124gr +P gold dot load that's not available any more . Just had to try it but not sure about carrying it .

Yes, I also have a carbine in 5.7x28. Super accurate and really does a job on the destructive critters that won't get close enough for the M&P.
Agreed. Not super fond of the thin, long grip of the 5.7 pistols (most of them) but since there's no recoil it doesn't bother me. Got rid of my 10xx pistols because their grip was too narrow. Love my M&P 10mm.

Good news for those that need the "compliant" M&P5.7 because of magaine capacity (and not the threaded barrel).
There is enough metal in that funky shroud to turn it daown, clean it up and thread it.

Because he and I already have a second barrel?

Buckspen is 100% correct. I experienced the same failure, the only failure I might add (and I shoot my reloads).
With the shortened barrel and shroud, I would expect more of the carbon to leave the shorter barrel through the muzzle, not more going through the gas port into the shroud.
Since it's easier to clean when it's fresh, and I expect the pistol to function flawlessly, I clean it after every range session.

Absolutely love this pistol and the Tempo system is a game changer for those who reload.
I would like to hear a little more about this. I jumped in fully on 5.7 in 2004 and have 2 USG's and 2 PS-90's "1 SBR'd" I went hog wild trying to develop loads and have several promising developments but I had a blown primer catch my loaded chamber indicator button and break the slide cover. After I repaired it I also had numerous coating issues feeding from the PS-90 mags and finally gave up. I have a considerable amount of re-loaded 5.7 and am considering a M&P 5.7 to try it in.
