Viewing "The Territory" on Nexflix which is about a modern day Cattle Station named "Marianne"in the Australian"Outback".
What is surprising is the amount of weapons in the series. Rifles, Shotguns, and Handguns. Sone of the players carry OWB.
I thought Australia had very strict gun laws ??

TV hyperbole, I expect. The British detective show Luther had lots of armed cops in London. Yes, there are more armed police in London than anywhere else in the UK, but a detective taking his gun home? Not so much.

Yeah, that wouldn't happen. Also on the not happening list: American cop shows where the main character shoots 3 bad guys, then holsters his weapon and tears off to chase a new lead. As opposed to surrendering the weapon used in the shooting for ballistics testing, and then doing 4 days worth of paperwork, along with a review of the shooting and probably a required psych visit. but that kinda interrupts the flow of your average Miami Vice episode.

Like the US, individual states make their own laws. The "Territory" is set in the Northern Territory which has the most lenient attitude of all the states, particularly for owners of large tracts of land. Cattle stations - ranches - are measured in square miles in the Northern Territory, and wild buffalo, dingos and salt water crocs are abundant. All valid reasons for obtaining a firearms licence.

Forty-some years ago in a mid-size (800 officers) west coast agency there was actually MUCH more paperwork involved in crashing a patrol car than there was in a shooting. In the latter cases you wrote only the briefest of narratives. The idea was to give no more than absolutely necessary to lawyers and anti-police activists.

JMO but that's kind of as it should be. If the general population can't be armed off the clock, the police shouldn't be able to either.

I did not watch enough of the show to notice much of the firearms. After Seeing Robert Taylor playing a jerk wasn't fun so after the other guy was eaten by dingos I quit watching.
It wasn't all bad, I'll probably revisit some time.
