Sad Day

I have plenty of #2400, but if I didn't, I'd buy an 8-pounder of AA#9. It's very close to #2400 in all respects and it's available. I've only tried it in .357 Magnum, but I'm confident it will work well in other magnum handgun cartridges.

Of course H110/296 will also work as a replacement for #2400, but you have to put up with that horrendous blast and fireball.

Does #9 require a magnum primer like H110 does ?

I have about 1.5 lbs left of it...I'd I basically only use it for 180g 44 mag loads (where it is an exceptional powder for that round)...I'll be sad when I finally run out.

Sad??? Good riddance to Alliance! Movin' on!

I have loaded a lot of handgun ammo with Alliant Powders. I started out, like a lot of us did, when it was Hercules. Powders such as Unique, Bullseye, Blue , Red ,Green Dot and 2400 populated my shelves. These powders, for me, were reliable, trustworthy, economical and perhaps most important were always available and affordable. I reveled in duplicating the old school loads by Skelton, Keith, Taffin, etc. I took much joy in pouring that 7.5 grs of Unique under those 240 gr Keith cast SWC. Yes I can find other powders to do the same job I suppose but it's just not the same. End of an era and yes it is kind of sad.

I still have 2 pounds of Hercules 2400 and almost a pound of Alliant, I just use it for .357 and 22 Hornet.

I tried N110 and it's all I need for .357 revolver and carbine. It also downloads nicely to a point, and no fireball.

I’m down to my last 3/4 pound, it’s Herco to boot! I shoot mainly cast in 44 mag, 45 Colt and 45-70. Ive got a fair amount of AA#5 and Reloader7as well as lil Gun, H110 and VV N320so I should do ok.

I'm very afraid that this is the new normal.
I have suitable substitute powders, but I miss the old
standards.
ETA:
I also remember stocking on Win primers when they
were $9.99/thousand.
