Model 19-3

The short answer is "yes". Second to last engineering revision with pinned barrel and recessed cylinder. Box/papers/tools and condition? Does it have the patridge or ramp front sight (if ramped does it have the red ramp?) and white outline rear sight? Which hammer/trigger configuration? Do you like 6" barreled revolvers?

These are questions only you can answer.

If you are not planning on shooting a lot of full power magnum loads, especially those with 125 grain bullets, then the 19-3 makes a nice shooter. With the 6 inch barrel, especially if it has the Patridge front sight and not the Baughman ramp sight, it is much like a K-38 Target Masterpiece, but with the option of using 357 Magnum ammo.

I have a friend that is selling a barely used Model 19-3 in 6 inch and he says I need it. Is the 19-3 a good gun to own

Well, it depends on if it's your first revolver or fortieth.

It also depends on if it's well maintained, or it has been riding in the glovebox for 20+ years or in the sock drawer. When I am in the LGS looking at used revolvers I noticed easily 50% is not properly maintained. When I was in the Police Academy, we really knew how to clean a revolver, JMHO. Sarge

Personally, *I* would skip on this one. My two 19s are a 2-1/2" snubbie & the new 19C. Both are geared more to carry rather than a range gun.

From my perspective, the only 6" revolver I would like is a .22LR model of some sort.

My .o2

I'm not a fan of 6" revolvers. However, I've owned several Ruger GP-100s, and I own a Colt Python. My 19-4 is the favorite .357 I've ever fired.

If he has not put through many Magnums - then yes. If it has had quite bit of magnums, I'd probably say no. A M19 is basically a .38 special that can accept the 1/8" longer magnum cartridges for occasional usage. And...... I would not shoot any other grain weight magnums other than the 158 grain version.

If you are buying it to shoot mostly 38 specials and it checks out as above, then go for it. If you want to constantly pound out magnums, get yourself an L or N frame.

In my collection, the model 19's are the model that I have the second most of, right behind the Model 29. I would have a hard time not buying a Model 19 if the right deal came along. My vote is buy it!
