Bought this 1973 NIB Nickel 59 from a friend, He was 2nd owner. Pistol had the real Ivory grips on, plus the black plastics in the box. No N on the frame but the box is correct and marked N I believe it is factory. The plating was flaking off the screws although the slots weren't boogered up when he bought it. I've seen pics of another with the same issue so I got to believe its a plating issue. Anyway he ordered some black screws which helped. I've been searching unsuccessfully for some nickel screws; found some stainless but at $11 ea I don't want to play. Any sources or suggestions?

Shiny 59s part 2

Didn't really care for the look of the Ivories on the Nickel so I put the black OEs back on. Black screws look fine but I still want the correct nickels. Much better IMHO.

If you 'need' (want?) slotted screws, while not nickel, there are a few polished stainless on ebay. Also, some that may look pretty sharp on that 39 are the custom screws from Altamont here: Just a moment...

59 Ivory grips

The Ivory grips are the real deal. Pistol dates to 1973 when Ivory hadn't yet achieved unobtanium status. I didn't see screws for SW on the Altamont site, just the fancy Colts. Will check ebay. Thanks. FWIW here's some Ivory mixed in with some other odds and ends. Japanese, Chinese, African, Indian, and some European.

Without a letter saying the gun shipped with ivory grips I would still question if they are original factory. Availability of ivory wasn't a consideration in 1973, all the 59's I have seen are the black panel grips. Faux Ivory grips on sale on flea bay item #254625372308

Your curio stand looks alot like mine full of Ivory Netsukes. Nice.

Didn't mean to imply that the grips were factory just that they are real Ivory. The blue gun had the factory blacks on it. The nickle had the factory blacks in the box.

If you can take a close up photo of the ends of the panel, the Schreger lines should show up as 'proof' they are real. The inside (backside?) of the panels should also be revealing. Schreger lines appear like these:
