Medallion colors

I’ve seen this a few times. Question I have is this a gold medallion that has worn off or a silver medallion with wood finish slopped on it? Square butt targets. Seventies I think

I have 2 with silver emblems a M36 and 60, all others with target grips are gold.

They are called "medallions", not emblems. They are brass that is Nickle plated. Because of the depth of the S&W on them the Nickle cannot rub off! Any slight yellowing is usually from finish that has been applied to the stocks that extends over the medallions because the previous owner was not careful if he applied an additional finish. There should be no finish applied over the medallions, S&W never did that.
