Would You Tell Someone If You Noticed Them Printing.

Another thought on 'Condition Yellow', which I think of as a state of relaxed alertness:
It's not just about threats; being more aware of your surroundings will also help you to see neat, cool, even GOOD things and activities around you. Don't discount the benefit of being able to simply look around and appreciate life!

As a retired LEO, back in the 70s we always looked for an “imprint” to see if they were carrying. We didn’t worry about our good friends but we were cautious about our bad friends. Yes, I live and worked in a small community that everyone knew everyone and everyone had an “Easy Rider” rifle rack in their vehicle with at least one center fire long gun and one shotgun or 2 of each. We knew most everybody and the brothers, sisters, moms, dads, uncles , aunts, grandparents and were extremely careful with all strangers. Don’t know when the term “printing” came about or why but it’s like most things, they evolve.

Great point! This is one reason I enjoy photography. I wander around with my camera looking at things. I see the world at a slower pace and study its bounty. Why not do the same thing all the time, camera or no camera? Take in the world and maybe save your hide someday. Cell phones are useful tools, but why miss out on the rest of life with my head buried in one?

Brings to mind a printed cartoon I saw: Dark of night on a street corner under a light pole, a citizen is being robbed at gun point. The victim is seen bending over forward trying to get a closer look. The robber says: "I don't care if you are a collector. I said hands up."

When I see open carry I try to identify make and model, but not if semi autos. Just not interested in them.

I vaguely recall in a ccw class an instructor stating that if legally and licensed concealed, the FA is shown printing thru a garment, that is not legal. Any truth to that? I don't get it. Could that be called brandishing?
As a current cow instructor, I know that some states have brandishing laws and some don’t. Brandishing is generally displaying a firearm to intimidate. Depending on the politics and laws of a certain jurisdiction, brandishing could be alleged. My state has open carry laws. I’m not a fan of the practice of OC, but I also like the law to be on the books because of those rare Walmart moments when the shirt tail has been snagged or risen up over the butt of the gun.

I made a major exception the other day to my "see something, don't say something" personal rule regarding this. An individual inside a Walmart had holster protruding about an inch below his untucked T-shirt. There was a bulge on his opposite side that was about the size and shape of a badge. If it was an LE, as his physical appearance screamed, thought he might want to know he was ridiculously easily made as a gun carrier, which could be unhealthy for him. "Yes, I just got off shift and came right here to buy milk and bread". He was pleasant enough about it, but didn't seem to care. I'd done my good deed and called my part done. Most LE's do care and do make a solid effort to conceal, unless they are actually open carrying.
I spend a slug of my career around plain clothes investigators who thought a Glock 22 in a Serpa holster covered by a T-shirt was sufficient concealment. Such a method exceeded the boundaries of “printing.”

To watch inmates in custodial settings watching, starring at LEOs and COs is an interesting personal study. Sometimes the stare will break when eye contact is made. What I’ve noted is if certain predators practice this “situational awareness” while in custody, they’re certainly going to continue prescribing it if/when they get out and go back to what they know best. So it makes sense that they’re looking for any advantage, including some unaware or distracted citizen who appears to be carrying a gun. So even the cop who just got off shift and casually threw a shirt or jacket on over his duty belt and holstered handgun and is focusing on expiration dates for milk is in jeopardy.

But to suggest someone spend $100 minimum on a decent (Bruce Nelson design) holster and belt combo designed to secure a handgun so no one can see it….. I haven’t found an inexpensive holster yet that really worked.

Cooper had four. Somebody else added black, and my understanding is that he did not approve . . .
That’s right. To Cooper, Red meant ‘FIGHT’S ON!’ The only thing Black could mean is, ‘You’re Dead’.
I guess some people defined Red as, ‘Gun out, confronting threat’. Black would refer to having to shoot.

About 40 years ago there used to be an off duty cop working the security detail at our local grocery store. He was partial to light colored and tight fitting Polo shirts and on some days you could almost make out the holster stamp on his rig. He carried a Walther PPK/S and pretty much everyone could see it. I never said anything about it but I'm pretty sure a few fellow customers did.

Unless it was someone I knew, I wouldn’t say anything, especially for nothing more than printing, Nope, not my business.

I would dial 9-1, and then follow him around the store waiting to press the last 1 if needed. Just kidding. No, I wouldn't say a word. I don't know who the guy is or what his story is. I don't believe you can judge a book by it's cover. For all I know it's a guy who wants to start something, and now that he's been made he's going to start it with me

In North Carolina open carry is legal if you do not have a CCW. With CCW you are not allowed to open carry. With that being said, I doubt printing would be a concern. People here carry every where & rightly so.

According to the video I posted above, Cooper says that Yellow is a general awareness of the world is not a safe place and that you may have to defend yourself today.

He says that orange is focusing on a specific potential threat. I may have to defend myself against that person today.

He says in condition red the threat has materialized and you're making "If, Then" decisions. "If this happens Then I'm going to shoot."

When I reference the Cooper color code, which is very rare, I use his definitions.

And again, based on this discussion I'm going to remind all you people who think "Nobody notices when I'm printing" that a good majority of the people here wouldn't say a word to you if they did

I know a lot of people worship Cooper but that whole color code thing is silly . You're assigning labels to what should be common sense . Hmmm ,... swarthy looking guy in a trench coat in July . What color should I choose ? Please ..

Yes, Cooper Condition Yellow, a goofy concept at best.

Along the same lines as goofy concept...these "printing" threads are regularly resurrected, just like a number of other low quality threads of little importance. However, they do give participants a chance to publicly air their opinion, good, bad, or worthless. What alleged or real value that may have, I don't know. Would there be any harm in aspiring to start threads using a somewhat higher standard as a goal? As for concealed carry, it's just that, simple as it may be despite some having an aversion to simple.
