RANT--USPS--UNBELIEVABLE ENCOUNTER X 3

$32 an hour for 40 hours a week is $66,560

30 hours overtime per week at time and a half for 50 weeks is $72,000.

Total pay is $138,560 per year.
How many people can physically work at that pace, and of those how many will find all that money going to a divorce lawyer? That math reminds me of something I heard yelled by a particularly stupid manager, "I don't recall giving you permission to have a life of your own." Having met the guy, I knew he wasn't joking.

When I owned my own business I routinely worked 80 hours over a 7 day period. I knew other business owners that did the same. If you want to be successful, that's what it takes.

When my customer base dried up during the 2008 recession, I went back to my roots and got a position in a factory. The starting pay back then for a union factory worker was about $80K with awesome benefits. The "Standard" work week was 4 or 5 days, with a 3 day weekend every other week. I would say 30% of the plant workers were making in the #150K range, because they would take on all the overtime they could get. When overtime was posted, they usually had more sign up than they needed.

Some wanted / needed the money to maintain a certain lifestyle. Others had kids in college and NEEDED the money. Regardless, I guess there are a lot of people that can and do keep up the pace.

Now, this was all voluntary. If a "boss" makes overtime mandatory, that's entirely a different subject.
