Engraved Double Action Smith's

My Engraved Registered Magnum

I've been telling this guy's story in another thread, so I'll be brief. My father bought this Registered Magnum when I was a negative 3 years old. i.e. I hadn't happened yet. So I can honestly say I've been with it for my entire life, which started in 1949. I even took it to college with me. He had it engraved and the ivory grips made in 1946. It's a really nice firearm.

Were factory engraved pieces generally signed with initials or an engravers mark? Or is that only seen on commissioned work?

44 Magnum factory engraved in an "oak leaf and acorn" pattern by Russ Smith and shipped in 1963. It is one of the few engraved in this pattern. Click on the photo for a better look.

Unsure if the work was done by Russ Smith, but it is similar.
What a beauty!!! I love the oak leaf patterned engraving. Although I don't believe that your 44 was engraved by Russ, it is very nicely engraved and I love the matching carving on the stocks. For comparison, here's another Russ Smith oak leaf engraved S&W (a K-38 Masterpiece):

... and a couple believed to be engraved H&H Zehner:

Beauties!! Thank you for the insight. The Oak leaf and acorn patterns on my 44 mag are different.

I think we all dream of running into something like the examples you’ve shared with a chance to purchase. Truly amazing!!
